Your poem is a lovely tribute to your country's service men and women, but your reflection is lovelier still. What a beautiful gesture you made in spending time with the German visitor. This is how we can honor humanity.

Hi Lisa,
This is a nice mix of a haiku suite and the prose. I could almost be a haibun poem.
We should always honor our war veterans alive or dead.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan

Your suite of stanzas speak of valiant ones during wars and your reflection speaks of humanity in peace. Thanks for caring for that stranger. I was just telling Chris on her ANZAC post, that the ANZAC soldiers fought against Turks, and later were on the same side of Turks fighting communism to preserve South Korea. Thankful to them!

This is a wonderful and moving tribute to your country's war dead. It comes as the discovery of the Montevideo Maru where 864 of your your soldiers died as POW:s on a torpedoed ship.
This discovery brings Australia 's sacrifice to the world 's attention.
Best wishes
Mary

This is a great tribute poem that is carefully worded to be precise, exact, and respectful. I liked reading it. We all need to remember often how other people have sacrificed over the decades for freedom in our countries. Thank you for posting.

LisaMay, as expected from you a great poem, certainly very poignant for the memories of many who's , over ones made the ultimate sacrifice for sake
Of Freedom. Your telling of sharing this with a German friend, experiencing Peqce is not a subtle reminder that those who served made a difference in the lives of millions today.

Lisa May, this is a lovely and respectful tribute to your military. Yet, even better than your suite of poems, I appreciate your reflection, and the idea of enjoying "friendship together in freedom."

My Jewish ancestors suffered mightily at the hands of the Germans in WWII, yet I know that many, probably most, modern Germans regret that blight on their history, just as most Americans regret slavery. Getting beyond these past "indiscretions" (to put it kindly) is the only way people can ever hope to live in peace, and I'm glad ('though not surprised) that you feel the same.

Just one technical comment: your second 5-7-5 stanza is actually a 5-7-6. If you want to make it a 5-7-5, just eliminate the word "We." (As dawn overcomes dark night, honour their spirit.) If you'd rather keep it as is, you could just change your intro to read, "Suite of 3-line stanzas ...."

Thank you for writing this. A very fitting piece on this special day. I usually post an Anzac poem myself but my get up and go seems to have gone.

I enjoyed this very much. I enjoyed your notes talking about the young German man that you escorted through the streets that were so silent because of it being a holiday in your country. I always appreciate your writing very much. Patricia.
