Are you going to look up all the food days for us? There's probably quite a few of them. I usually freeze my bananas for my smoothies. Can't say I've ever used Gatorade before in them as my go to is almond milk. I also have a yummy recipe for a breakfast banana split (no ice cream involved). But I do hope bananas are around for a long while. I know there has been a major issue with a fungus which they can't seem to get under control. Thanks for sharing. Now I'm hungry for bananas.

This is of course very interesting to me and of a personal interest as well. I have just finished writing a historical novel in two volumes about my great-grandfather, Lorenzo Dow Baker from Cape Cod, who single handedly introduced the banana to Massachusetts in the beginning of 1870.
He eventually built up a huge fleet and business. A third book may be on the cards. Ulla:)))

You write a very entertaining and interesting article about bananas but you haven't convinced me to eat the peel. You cover all the information about this fruit and make it fun to read.

I've been selling bananas for 43 years and never would have guessed they originated in India, but I guess in retrospect it sounds quite plausible. I would have guessed South America or Africa. Either way, they are good for you and who would turn down a banana split on a 90 degree afternoon? estory

I thoroughly enjoyed your article on the beloved banana. I am a banana fanatic and eat a banana every day. My husband use to make banana cream pie and I love banana pancakes. I was unaware that the peel can be consumed, how interesting. Great writing on one of my favorite subjects. I use to give my guinea pigs banana-yogurt treats that they would go wild for but the treats are not made anymore.

Hi John,
yes, thank you for this homage to the most versatile fruit on earth.

I myself could not imagine a day without one somewhere in my day. My usual is my breakfast protein smoothie... the humble banana is the base, followed up with five different spices, a concoction of green superfood powders, paw-paw, or papaya and kiwi fruit, yogurt, wheat germ, Lsa, slippery elm powder, psyllium powder and coconut water.

This has been my staple breakfast diet for over ten years... everyday. Couldn't live without it, if you know what I mean?

But how could one go past the banana, peanut butter and honey sandwich? Hmmmmmmmm(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Thank you once again John, enjoyed the extra history, added menus and tasty treats. My preference for the peels is to go directly into my compost... it improves the soil like no other and is a beneficial feed for stags and elkhorns growing at home, that's if the possums don't find them first.

Great little essay John, enjoyed the read and yes, very A-peeling.

With our thoughts we create...
the gathering of knowledge.

Kind regards,
James.

Thank you, James! I appreciate your taking the time to read, review and share your take on the banana! I eat one daily, usually on my way to work (no peel, though).

    Have a great weekend!
    Cheers,

Cracked yourself up, huh. You are too easy! (smiley face here)
I lo-ove bananas. You could have added their medicinal qualities: ripe is good for constipation, green is good for loosey-goosey (or is it the other way around? I always get confused. (hah!)
Good work.

I eat bananas every day. My favorite kind of banana pancakes is one served by a restaurant called First Watch and they have and Banana nut crunch pancake that is delicious. It has a granola bace. I learnedf something about the peeling. I never knew it could be eaten. I used the inside to rub on my skin as it is said to be good for that and helps prevent wrinkles It also makes good fertilizer for plants. Tonight I fried the peeling in my air frier and was surprised that it tasted so good.
