Wow! Isn't it something, Wendy? It makes you mad, doesn't it? Rules. You know what I would have done. I'd bloody well park there anyway. I'd forge a parking sticker. Too bad for them. And I'd hire two men to carry my daughter into the service center (Pain in the Ass Center), right up to the agent who refused your request. I'd also write a testy letter to the powers that be, and tell them what I think of their rules... as bluntly as I could.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
No common sense. No logic. No compassion.
My favorite line,
"Did they only over-ride "the system" AFTER some-one had been made to jump through all these hoops?"
Okay, blood pressure rising. I've got to stop.
Nicely penned, Wendy. This world is upside down, maybe it really is flat!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you. That was a great response! Very caring and compassionate. I do think that the Service Centre should receive a formal complaint at the highest management level. At the minimum. Thanks again.

It would seem that there is no room for 'mitigating ' circumstances. Your friend 's mother would be emotionally exhausted and those people should be making it easier for her not harder. It's sad to hear these sort of uncaring stories. Thanks for sharing their story Wendy.
Cheers
Valda

Thank you, Valda for your very caring words. Yes, this can?t be an isolated situation, so there needs to be some understanding and flexibility shown. Thanks so much for reviewing.

The experience Kay and her mother had is unconscionable. I got my wife a handicapped card for the car last week. It took fifteen minutes. It isn't like getting top secret clearance.

Yes - and I am sure there was a way to get past the "need" for an up-to-date photo right at the beginning. Some little bureaucrat trying to wield power. Most uncaring. Thank you so much for the review - and I am very glad your process was significantly easier.

I'm so sorry for this mother and daughter's experience. It makes me grateful for my own mum, who's in her late 70s like the mother you wrote about, and is incredibly kind to me.

Thank you for your compassion for the hurting. Yes, bureaucracy is unable to see beyond the rules because that's all they're paid to follow. I'm glad they got the parking permit! Hope the treatment is successful!

This is a classic story of a bureaucratic agency following rules and not willing to use Godly or humane practices when needed. I worked for a government agency and know it's possible to 'bend the rules.' I'm glad Kay was able to get a parking permit, but it should not have taken such a toll on her eighty-year-old mother.

Thank you very much for your caring review. Yes, some of these people just like to wield their power. I'm sure it could have been organised much more quickly if they had wanted to show a bit of compassion. It can't be an isolated case.

Wendy, thank you so much for writing about this. The system, full of petty tyrants exerting the only power they will ever have in their pathetic little lives, absolutely stinks! When I had a knee replaced I looked at the six foolscap pages my busy doctor would be expected to fill out, and said, Ah, forget it! I feel so much for poor Kay and her mother.

So your knee didn?t get done?! Oh no. That too is wrong when you needed surgery. No wonder we have a doctor shortage and overworked doctors. Yes, petty power plays. Thanks so much for a thoughtful review and for your caring.

Hello Wendy,
You've touched on a situation that appears to be universal. Bureaucrats seem much more interested in hanging on to their jobs and flaunting their "power" than in helping the people they are supposed to be helping. Government is not the answer to most of the problems we have. More government causes more problems. President Ronald Reagan said the most terrifying words in the English language are -Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help. Thanks for sharing gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

I agree - I think they just like to wield their "power" sometimes. I am sure a compassionate person could have looked into how to over-ride the system for such circumstances as these, on the very first day. Some checks do have to be in place because of the few who would rort the system, but it needs to be flexible enough to manage such situations as these. Thanks so much for your thoughtful review.

I think this, and a lot of these frustrating stories, has to do with the fact that there are so many people needing services these days, and not enough people to take the time to offer service. It's not an excuse, but I think it's part of the problem. We can't even go to the doctor without having to offer paperwork that we've saved from another physician to share with the doctor we're currently visiting - they tell us, "I didn't receive the paperwork from your other doctor." Then why don't they have someone in their office follow up and get it before we come to the appointment?

I'm not sure if you have regional "representatives" in Australia (here we have Congresspeople who represent our districts), but appealing to them for help in cases like this sometimes works.

I hope Kay will recover - for herself and for her mother. It sucks that she has to go through this at such a young age.

Thanks for sharing.

xx
Pam

Thank you Pam. Yes we do, and I think going to her local Council Member would have been the logical next step if she hadn't got the permit - or getting her situation publicised on TV. They are always quick to jump to protect themselves then if they are to be seen in a bad light on TV. Thanks for your review, and also for your good wishes.

I like how you capture the raw emotions of the experiences in the story. You bring me along on a journey of understanding and empathy. This story has also reminded me of my mother, who lost her battle with cancer. It allows me to deeply connect with the characters and their struggles. Thank you for sharing. Best Regards.

Thank you very much Ann. Firstly, my condolences for your loss. You are in a position to understand the situation from lived experience. I think they just like to wield their "power" sometimes. I am sure a compassionate person could have looked into how to over-ride the system for such circumstances as these, on the very first day. I apreciate your thoughtful review.
