Hi Bill,
Loyalty is surely one of the most sought after traits in all relationships and definitely in a work situation.
A well researched, thoughtful and thought provoking essay.
Blessings

Great article. I think anyone who bad-mouths their former boss in a job interview is incredibly immature. I think writing about loyalty, it gives one pause to think of their own loyalty or loyalty to others.
To be loyal, you also must be willing to defend and stand your ground. I left a job I absolutely loved when the VP asked me to change a rating to make it look like a field underwriter had made a mistake. I would not do it.
His loyalty was to his career only.
Best regards,
Mary

Very well said, yes, loyalty is a big part of moving on to a better and more secure workplace, some people really can't communicate very well, and it does tale a thick skin to put up with it, an excellent read****kahpot

This is a very useful read for one who seeking a new job. I like the bit about not bad-mouthing your former employer. I'm glad your son-in-law followed your advice. Speaks well of the relationship you have with him.

I have been on both sides of this issue. I have been supported by bosses I had no reason to believe that I would receive their support. I have been betrayed by bosses I would have defended with my very life. It is almost impossible to tell before hand what will happen before you get in that trench and have to face fire from a hostile source.

Yes, loyalty is an important quality. You don't want to speak ill of a former boss when you're seeking a new job. Your son-in-law's experience was a good example. He remained loyal despite the goofy boss, and it paid off. I think it's hard for young people entering the job market now because they've been coddled in school, told how wonderful they are. Even in college, they may receive grades higher than their performance level. They don't know how to take criticism. Great work here. judi

Great story about your son-in-law to illustrate what loyalty is. Your post reminded me of when I applied for a job 40+ years ago with the Hoover Institute where it was rumored that Solzhenitsyn illusively did some research there. The guy who interviewed me hated my current boss at the graduate library at Stanford and tried to get me to say something negative about her. I didn't give him the pleasure. So I didn't get the job. She was rather loony but I wasn't going to speak ill of her.

a formal employee (former?)

Loyalty, which is sadly almost a thing of the past in most circles. So many seeking an unfair advantage and only thinking of theirs and themselves. Thanks for sharing.

Well this is a very interesting right? That only you point out some very valid and real facts. If you do mouth off your former employers they're goanna look at you differently for sure and loyalty like trust and respect I believe are not automatically bestowed but are in fact, an earned thing. Having said all that I must say this is very well done very well written but I'm obviously talented writer. The picture is perfect love it! I see no issues with subject matter grammar sentence structure punctuation or spelling all is in line and spot on. Thank you so much for your submission and all the best to you!

I think you have loyalty spot on, Bill. If you can't say anything nice about a person, then you should move on. Sometimes, though, as in the case of your son-in-law, by not complaining but still carry on doing your job well, you can almost guarantee you will be rewarded. Loyalty does pay off in many ways. Well done, Bill, this was an excellent chapter to your book. :)) Sandra xx
