This is an excellent article. I had not heard of Elizabeth Peratrovich, but I have heard that Alaska was the first to pass an anti-discrimination law. Women do seem to be left out of history books quite frequently. Thanks for bringing her to our attention.

Thank you, Mary, for your kind words. Yes, history that is taught seems to be a rather male-dominated affair. It's time for a change. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

What an amazing story of an incredible woman. It takes such dedicated people to create change. I like that statement about not denying the rights all people deserve. Her example of laws do not end wrong-doing, but they recognize it and help in changing things. Excellent title.
This has to be a strong entry for the contest. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, the question whether laws would actually end discrimination seemed to be a popular one asked by politicians to deter people from wanting them. A similar tactic used by politicians today. Maybe someone should enlighten them about Elizabeth's speech. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

You are welcome. Thank you for sharing this story. I see you won the contest. Well deserved.
All of the stories were amazing, but this was the best written.
    Congratulations.

Thank you for this beautiful article about this remarkable woman.
I love the way you showed her quietly knitting. It reflected her patience and a certain calmness about her, almost as if she knew that what she would do was making a difference for her people.
Great job.

Thank you, Rebecca for your kind words. In all my readings, there was never a reason for the knitting. I can only guess it was a way to keep calm. Sitting and listening to such awful things being said about your race would have made my blood boil. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

That was an incredible speech, and the whole should be printed and saved. That this incredible lady died so young from breast cancer, is really sad. I very much agreed with that last point Elizabeth raised:
"Asking you to give me equal rights, implies that they are yours to give. Instead, I must demand that you stop trying to deny me the rights all people deserve."
That could be applied to many countries today, as well. Well done, that was fabulous! Good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you, Sandra for your kind words. Yes, unfortunately, it seems that no matter how far we have come, we are always in danger of going backwards. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

This was very good and informative. I did not realize that Alaska Natives were the victims of discrimination. It blows my mind as to why anyone would believe another human being of any race is below them in value and unworthy of being treated equally. I'm glad this woman stood up for her race and was able to get the legistation passed.

Thank you, Beth, for your kind words. Before I started research for the contest, I was unaware of their struggle as well. She was not a woman to back down. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

Beware of a woman with knitting needles who speaks with a sharp tongue, particularly if you are some bigot on the wrong side of history. This is a well-researched story. Thank you for writing it. Exceptional. Terry.

Thank you so much, Terry, for your kind words and six stars! Yeah, I'm not sure if the knitting needles was a way to keep herself calm or a warning as to the thrashing they were about to receive. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

An enthralling story. The grammar is lively without being trite. The flow is good. The images are clear. I noticed no errors. It is also a very informative piece.

Thanks for sharing.

Excellent work. Well written.
Informative - and persuasive.
It's truly amazing that white people continue to this day to espouse open discrimination against people of color, and of women.
Best wishes.

Thank you, Wayne, for your kind words. Yes, it is amazing that it seems that we still have so far to go in our treatment of fellow human beings. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.

A faultlessly written and fascinating article on a very worthy subject. Younger women need to be kept aware of just how much we have progressed in the past decades, and it is items like this one which help do so. Congratulations on a very worthwhile project.

Thank you, Julie, for your kind words and the six stars! Yes, studying history in school is rather a male-dominated affair. I hadn't heard of any of the women who fellow writers wrote about for the contest. A rather sad state of things. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review.
