Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

There is nothing better than reading about a life I can relate to, plumb back to working on the farm and hoping it didn't get us too far behind in school. But you should have taken time to learn a musical instrument. It sure fills in some of the lonely spaces for me. Thanks for sharing.

Always appreciate your support. As I have gotten to know you a mite it does appear we had some similarities in our backgrounds. That has been interesting to me to discover.

I enjoyed reading your story. It sounds like your life was immersed in music. I was one of two kids in the seventh grade that did not make the choir. Sister Deloris said, "give a C." I opened my mouth and a noise came out and she gave me the boot. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

You are doing a really good job of telling your story. Dusty seems like the ideal father/friend/teacher. I hope our adopted kids care about us as much as you love Dusty. I also hope 31 is the next story. I am going to fan you, so I am notified of your postings. You are a very good writer who checks his work carefully. Did No Such Things As Angels get recorded? It is a good title.

Been on hold in Nashville, which means is being considered to be recorded by someone. So, hoping for the best. Glad you enjoyed this chapter. Appreciate your comments and the review.

Dusty had a lot of wisdom and insight. Even though you perhaps disappointed him re the guitar, your appreciation of music became such that you could write lyrics. And you learned his two main lessons - the value of a good education, and the value of hard work. As well as teaching you, gradually, to trust people. He was a true father figure, and a wonderful influence and role model.
Powerful writing, with plenty of detail where needed. Well done, Brett, a most engaging autobiography.

Your chapters are always so engaging. Dusty is certainly making changes in the narrator. He's emphasized school work and diligence. There is a definite change in the boy's attitude. Great details about picking cotton. despite being around country music and liking it, it's a wonder he didn't want to become a performer. The song writing must have been a rewarding thing for him. Excellent recollections of all those events. You must have quite a memory. judi

Quite a memory? Only where recalling the events between Dusty and I are concerned. Otherwise, afraid my senior age is beginning to catch up with me. Appreciate your insights and the review.

Hello Brett,
thanks for sharing such an in-depth view of your life. It's encouraging that there are people like Dusty in the world, who do more than offer lip service. No doubt you would be a much different man than you are now if he hadn't come in to your life. I can't imagine having to pick cotton. I never knew that the cotton plants were so low to the ground. Can you wear gloves when you pick or is that impractical? Your life sounds like it made a hundred and eighty degree turn. I'm so glad to hear that.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Dusty, was the perfect parent for you. You might have ended up a bum if fate had not put you in his path. He sounds like really decent guy. I think you conpleted a need he had as well, because he sounds like a person meant to be a parent and mentor. You know I'm enjoying you story. I picked a little cotton too as a kid and grew up on country music. Actually almost all the stations we picked up in Mississippi played country music until I was a teenager and then there was pop.

So lovely to share in your upbringing with a wonderful stepdad,,, perhaps the only real dad you ever had. Love to see your lyrics. Maybe I can put a tube to them even in my Beethoven deafness. No spags. Tom informs me I can promote more than one "reprise" a day so stick around.

One of The best things I did was learn to play a guitar in my forties, mainly to encourage my elder daughter to keep up her practise her instrumental lessons and practice, although I'd been a rock singer in my twenties, I started writing songs and with two albums and 36 singles I formed my own gospel group, toured for a few years and my daughter is now a professional musician, wife and mum to brilliant budding musicians, I don't perform much these days, but I've taught other platform musos, but the upshot is my poetry, see what can be done? G,C and D are popular country chords, I enjoyed this work, blessings Roy

Though have become a Classic Country Music fanatic, and on well known friendly terms with some of the biggest Stars in that field, never learned how to play any instruments. Sometimes, regret that decision, though being a musician myself never appealed to me. Appreciate your insights, little bit of history, and review. Somehow, took you for a Ministerial background. Guess Gospel music would fit that bill.

It's such an interesting journey you've had, Brett. How lucky you were that you and Dusty stumbled upon each other. As you know, I love your story and can't wait to reading on. Ulla:)))
