This is a really amusing story, almost one that could be for children. Unfortunately, sad children might cut themselves to see if they could make more friends. It's still a happy story to make adults smile.

I hadn't thought of that. Thank goodness, no children will see it.

This is an interesting post. I knew some creatures could regenerate parts of themselves such as a starfish which can regrow a lost limb. But to replicate itself in the way the flatworm does is astonishing. I bet the world population would be "chopped" in half if we had to replicate in that fashion!

Good morning, Yvonne!
Oh my goodness!
What a well-crafted educational offering.
I can just see this story being read to a class of children ... or my own little grandsons. They would love it!

Thank you for sharing!

There are some amazing creatures in this world. I remember studying about creatures which reproduced by dividing and creature that grew back body parts when parts were destroyed. It would be nice if we could regrow body parts. Neat little story.

Hi Yvonne What a cute little story and your notes help explain this creatures abilities. Pity we cant regenerate broken or missing parts,
save a heap on hospital bills lol
I like this post
Cheers Chris

Very nicely written. Good work.
You presented interesting information. I had vague, faint memory of some species with this ability, but could not call it up. thank you.
Best wishes.

Well, I was partially horrified and partially interested in Peggy and her superpower. Only horrified because I just don't care for bugs. I did learn a lit from this and for that I thank you. This was a well written educational store. Thank you for posting. Greychen

Hi Yvonne,
This would be a great story for kids. I'm not sure, but I think worms can grow back their lower body if cut in two by a shovel (for example). Often when digging for worms, I've cut a worm in two.
It was a great way for Peggy to have friends, a whole underground town of fellow flatworms. Scientists should do a study on this. There are a lot of people, and kids too, who have lost a limb... leg, arm, fingers.
But most overcome their missing feature. They learn to live with it. They think positive.
Here's a guitarist who lost a finger at an early age...

And here's another musician who is blind...

And here's a man who lost both legs from frost bite on a mountain climbing trip...

Bionics is a new field that will benefit future amputees.

Nicely penned! Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Kimbob

I once knew a studio guitarist that lost his right hand and learned to play with his left hand on a right-handed guitar.

Hello Yvonne,
Once again I've learned from the other writers on FS. I don't care for creepy, crawly things, they kind of gross me out. It's quite a feat of nature though for this planarian to be able to regenerate. Another of nature's mysteries. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Thank you. It sounds nice, but I think we mess with nature too much.

I was thinking of my well-fed worms in my worm farm as I read this one, Yvonne. It is amazing the sort of things in Nature that can teach us humans so much, well those clever scientist humans.
Enjoyed your take on this unusual flash fiction challenge.
cheers,
valda

Thank you. It makes me happy that you like it. I once had a worm farm. That was years ago.
