You have met the criteria for flash fiction: a beginning a middle and an end. I enjoyed reading the story and I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Well look who can play a stringed instrument :-) I like the sound of the banjo, or any strummed and picked music. So did you sister ever get to play the banjo your mother bought for her that Christmas in 1968? You certainly got to enjoy it and well done for keeping it all these years.

What a cute story this is. All the focus was on Sister expecting her new baby, but it was you who received the unexpected. Keep strumming...
Good luck in the contest.

What a delightful story about your surprise present. I'm sure you were happy to return your borrowed one and play your very own.

Nicely done.
Blessings

Before I met my first husband, my only exposure to banjo music was The Beverly Hillbillies and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. My husband was a Bluegrass fan. Since then I've learned to appreciate the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, etc. I can't play a lick but I sure enjoy listening.

Your title and artwork are perfect for your story. I know you were delighted when you saw a brand new banjo. It probably encouraged you to practice and play even more than you did with the borrowed instrument.

I have a question. You marched with the Coral Mummers Band. Does the word Mummers refer to the Philadelphia Mummers Parade? I'm from Philly, living in Florida. My new Florida neighbor was a Mummer.

Best wishes in the contest.

LJ, that is correct. I marched as a Mummer. We were located in Union County, NJ. We partnered with Avalon String Band from Philly and marched in the New Years Day Parade. I did that for 5-6 years way way way back.
Great fun. I loved marching with the bands. Sorry, I?m rambling.

This was a fun true story flash. It told an entertaining story in a few words. I don't know anyone who plays the banjo, though most of my dad's family plays some instrument or another. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

That is cool. I guess the gift wasn't for you sister after all until the bassinet would be arriving later. I enjoy music from all instruments and a banjo player can provide a lot of entertainment.
