This is a great entry for the contest. It is always a bit scary facing surgery, and I can understand how this waiting time made you feel anxious. Glad everything went well.

Thank you for reviewing my story, Anne! Surgery can be daunting for the newbie, so can writing your experiences, hehe. Thanks for your kind remarks,

I think we are all a little skeptical during our first surgery, but after we've had a few, we're more apt to say let's get this show on the road. Thanks for sharing.

You are so very right, my friend! It gets easier, but not so much fun.
Thanks for taking time to review,

Some of us have all the luck, and even though your trials have been many, you remain here to share the ordeals and to have us consider forgetting surgery. .................. Good story

Wow, someone wasn't paying attention to the clock other than
you. Your contest entry read well, Rhonda. I enjoyed reading it.
You detailed how many people feel when they have to have surgery.
Your words were well chosen and created great imagery. Even in
an anxious state, you were able to understand the procedure. The
fact about not signing the papers earlier was a big mistake on the
part of the doctors. In the end, I'm sure your remembered and let
them know a thing or two.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

Hi Jan! I?m so glad you saw my post and that you were able to review it.
I?m glad the imagery stood out, it was what I was trying to convey.
They really did mess up on the paperwork, which is odd and may be why he was being so defensive. I didn?t say anything else to them. Pain and morphine will mellow the tongue, lol.

    Thanks again,
    Rhonda

This was all too real for me. I'm lying in bed right now recovering from surgery and went through that while waiting game. They stuck me in a corner and my 1130 surgery started at 1. An extra hour and a half in a corner, wondering what was happening. Eesh.
One fine tune:

you?"

"Of course not," I said, "but I'm still nervous. I'd prefer you not go on about what could go wrong."

("Of course not," I said. "But I'm still nervous. I'd prefer you not go on about what could go wrong.")

Just my two cents.

Nice job with detail on this.

Your story brought to mind the many anxious people heading to surgery as an RN. Everyone tries to put on a brave face. Most people seem calm on the outside, but you know they have to have a runaway mind. You did a great job with your story. Good luck in the contest. Shirley

Thank you for your review, Shirley! I was certainly not trying to knock the health professionals, but just show the mind of a frightened patient. God bless all who are out there doing a very difficult job!

This is a very well written story. As I listen to it, it read well, and it was also smooth flowing. I understand so well about side effects from anesthesia or various things that they put in our bodies when we were in the hospital. I am glad that you were able to come through it without it having too much problems. Do you have a good day and may God bless you. Patricia.

Thank you for your compassionate review, Patricia. I?m sorry you?ve had to face some of that yourself. But suffering does tend to make you understand other people?s, for certain.

You did an excellent job describing the trauma associated with surgery for the first time. You want it over as quickly as possible. I like the way you started out with the ticking of the clock and the way it made you impatient. Unfortunately, the medical staff has to inform you of certain things. You made the reader understand how this could make a patient feel. I enjoyed reading your story even though I'm sorry you had to go through the surgery and the drama. Best wishes in the contest.

Hello Rhonda,
Wonderful to see you posting again and with the same insight and touch of humor.
It's those legalities, the long list of things to scare the heck out of you.
If you were calm, you certainly wouldn't be after hearing the list of horrors.
And the irony is, what can you do about it. If you need the surgery, it's not like you can get up and walk out.
Great ending to the story, both the successful recovery, and the little jab at the end.
I remember you mentioning the farm accident before, and the surgeries,
but thankfully, here you are writing a marvelous story.
Good luck in the contest
and best wishes, best health, my friend.
Six stars, one for each of those deep breaths of oxygen.
Robert.

Hi Robert, you may have been one of the only ones to catch the tongue-in-cheek aspect to the story. I can always count on you to get the undertones.

I figured some of you would remember all that mess I went through. The bull accident didn?t stop my writing, but, somehow the other stuff did. Time to slough it off and get busy.

I caught some of Pam?s work. Time for a Robert poem!

    Take care,
    Rhonda

Wow. I felt your tension and anxiety. I'm surprised you didn't read them the riot act for leaving you alone for 45 minutes when not one staff member came in to check on you!

I hope all is or getting better for you.
PS. Stay away from larger than you animals.

Cheers
John

Hi John! I was way too nervous to take them to task, but I did let them know I had expected to go in sooner. I mean, it was 7 am, it?s not like anyone was ahead of me.

I did get better at it later, though I?m not sure that?s much to brag about. In 3 years, I had 11 operations. I think I did my share in supporting the medical profession, lol. Time off for me now! Healthy as a horse.

    Take care,
    Rhonda
