Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. Having raised boys, been there, done that. LOL I enjoyed reading, and good luck with the contest.

I can do this. With this pitch I won't be scared anymore! (a space is needed after the period)

I too can be a baseball player. (comma is needed after 'I', some would say a comma is also needed after 'too', it's up to you)

I have tried this game and the bat isn't big enough to hit the ball, ha ha ha, I missed more times than I hit! I think I was more scared of the ball hurtling toward me, than the bat. I loved the photo as this little guy seems to know what he is doing. It must have been great fun coaching these little kiddies, I enjoyed a snippet of your sport here, we call it rounders, love Dolly x

This is a good story that kids would like if it went on to tell how the fear was conquered. Kid's want their problems solved. One error: batter(')s box. If you want to write for children Highlights Magazine has lots of interesting info for writers. Even have camps to teach how to improve your writing. Then you could try it out here to see how it works out.

Nice flash story. I used to love playing baseball. If you want to be a good hitter, you can have no fear of the ball. As a batter you have to believe that you can either get out of the way or attack the ball and deflect it in a different direction. You piece brings back memories.

I remember those days! I wasn't a sports fan, and I was always picked last in physical education. I remember being afraid of the ball. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

I enjoyed reading your short piece. I think you did a good job presenting the young boy's fears. I have never played baseball or softball, Being in the batters' box, is a solitary moment and all eyes are on you. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

This is such a cute picture and wonder post to go with it. My husband coached a team of 8 to 9 year olds and it was a wonder every day. The kids were and more than one of them did exactly as your character - watched the ball go by. Great post. Good luck in the contest. ann

Fun story, John. Brings back memories of my time in little league. The only time I was afraid to bat was when I was 8-years-old, and it was my third time up against the same pitcher who hit me in the chest my first two times up. I don't know if this kid had it out for me, or he was just wild, but I asked the coach if someone could pinch hit for me.

Marvelous story, Jim. At that age, I couldn?t blame you for wanting a pinch hitter.
    Thanks for reading. John

-Nice image for your story and notes are appreciated.
-You wrote a good story as the boy things about batting,
and that he won't be scared of the pitch.
-You capture his inner feelings well.
-He's well prepared and reminds himself of that.
-He digs his foot in and is ready for the pitch.
-A good ending; it just isn't as easy as it would appear.
-One small thing:
Staring at the pitcher I swallow [comma after pitcher]
-A good entry; good luck!
