This is a lovely poem, Bill. I can see a huge improvement in your poetry as time goes by. You have put a great deal of feeling in this poem. We are so lucky to have our memories. So many lose the ability to remember events as they age. That is sad. Time can be a thief and rob us of the joy of our yesterday's. Good work my friend. Enjoyed it. Nancy:)

What a neat poem, Jay! I am also at the age where I enjoy looking back at the memories I've made over the years. I loved your idea of sorting through them, "discard the doleful, keep the glad." And I like your closing line too... "this comfort for the old." How true, and as I often say, how wise you are. Your poetry shows the wisdom you have gained through the years. I agree. Memories--the pleasant ones--keep us going.
Your poem was well thought out. I liked the use of end rhyme
on the last line of each verse and the monorhyme on the other
lines in the verses (except a subtle change in last verse).
You gave readers much to think about.

getting creative ideas from this author! I like how the author uses his
memories and then writes. I really liked the last stanza - I agree with the author - I feel the treasures the author mentions can comfort the old.
