The death of a favorite character or very real person is painful. The term favorite is a helpful clue. If someone, anyone loves you to the point that you are considered a favorite, your demise will be painful. If your end was via murder, there just may be someone willing, determined even to make the guilty pay.

A big fan of Brett's writing, it didn't take me long to put the characters together and have a idea of where this was going. Fine writing as always. Thanks for sharing.

Hello there! Great job and talented writing... as always. There were some points that I didn't get, but the ending was all too clear. I will pop over to Brett's page and take a look. :)

Some of it is quite pointed and refers to specific things which not everyone will probably be aware of but I think there's enough here to let it stand on its own too. lol Much appreciated. G

This story, The Death of Brody Dodoeder, carries the idea of an editor forcing the death of an author's character. The resulting backlash of life copying art, provides this strange end.

I hope Brett appreciates this advertisement for his story as it certainly does that in spades!
I have not read the series on Cody and his exploits but I am sure to read them now!
Good writing as well as an excellent assassination of a character in Brett's work.
Thanks for sharing and I hope you get the laughs this satire deserves.

I must be very thick headed this morning, because I didn't understand this story. It just flew over my head. I didn't see anything wrong with your mechanics as usual. Have a great day. Shirley

lol. That's okay, Shirley. It probably helps if you're familiar with Brett's work.
It's about outside interference on the author's character, and the author being forced to obey and then taking revenge.
Hope you are well.

I'm a little confused about the well written story. I know there is some back story somewhere explaining this but in spite of reading Brett's work I can't seem to grasp it. I thought maybe his Cody character was the one you referred to but the Sheriff you mention isn't Sheriff Daniels.

I change all the names to something similar and it's a fantasy about what happens when a writer is forced to change things they don't want to and how they might (in some twisted way) respond. Much appreciated. G

This is very well written and a great story. I have read the original and found that good too. To me, it would be an honour if someone as good as you took a story of mine and played around with it. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.

Aw, come on now. Anyone who has ever told a story knows his or her character is the meat and potatoes!
You can't substitute canned peas for meat and potatoes!
Having an entity plotting assassination of a character (to adhere to.....some perception of some rule?)-- is tantamount to murder... Certainly the death of a writer's freedom to express!
Poor Cody.
Maybe if submitted as a poem in a short story contest he'd have been safe...
Or, say, written as a dear brother in a non-fiction account of "Someone who changed your life."
After all, those "infractions" have made it in and flourished!
I've not had the pleasure of reading Brett...or getting to know Cody, until now.
(I have just come from his post, which, I believe, may have inspired this.)
Congratulations to both of you.
I've been your fan right along.
Brett and Cody just earned themselves fandom.
Kangaroo Courts are so 1800's...
"Merriam-Webster defines kangaroo court as "a mock court in which the principles of law and justice are disregarded or perverted."
A rose by any other name???
Amusing write...
But it only hurts when I laugh!
