Smiles all around, Mystery Writer!
I initially thought you were a cat! But a male skunk is even better!
Your offering reads smoothly - with ease and kept my interest to the very end.
Much enjoyed.

Best Wishes!

You did a great job, Prettybluebirds, with your contest entry.
I enjoyed reading it. I thought for sure I was reading about a
human. The twist at the end was clever. Now that I know that
this was about a male skunk, it is even more fitting. The part
about the dogs was great. Yes, the skunk will give the dogs
something to remember him. Your words and theme were well
thought out.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

Very clever! Kept me wondering exactly what this was going to be about...homeless etc. all the way to the perfect ending. Awesome job and good luck in the contest!

Nice job on this piece. I was thinking a human male at first, but then the "hole up in a farmer's barn, or I might sleep in the open if the weather is warm" made me think of some varmint. The skunk at the end was a nice touch I have to say.

Thank you. If you think about it, skunks are solitary animals. The females have young, of course, but the male is always alone.

This was interesting to read. At first the reader thinks it is an older gentleman, and then I started thinking "alley cat/tomcat" with the mention of dogs, but how clever to have an entirely different animal altogether. (Did Pepe Le Pew have a grandson somewhere? LOL). Nice share. Good luck in that contest.
