Well done. That was such a convincing read with an excellent, and totally unexpected twist at the end! I enjoyed your excellent writing. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the silly story. Writing short stories with surprise endings is one of my favorite things.

You got me on that one. I was thinking of another animal, but a skunk makes better sense. The dislike for dogs is funny.
I personally don't like them. We've had our house skunked many times.
Nice job.

Thank you. We get skunked quite often here in Michigan. Skunks are plentiful where I live.

Good luck in the contest. You've already achieved "Recognized" status, so many readers have already liked this story. I liked it too. I know people who fit the description you've created of a loner. I like that you provided enough information for me to understand why this narrator is a loner and not a lonely person. There is a difference and you highlighted that. It is one thing to be alone, another to like it, especially all the time. I like your writing, it is clear and to-the-point.

This is the second "Alone Writing" contest writing I've read. And this seems a great contest entry. I could feel his arrogance about being alone. Great job.

Thank you. Skunks are arrogant animals in real life. They are not afraid of anyone or anything.

You surprised me at the end. Your story is creative and clever. I imagine male skunks do prefer to be alone. Your story flows well and held my interest. This is an excellent entry for the contest.

This is a unique attempt at the Alone Writing Contest. I enjoyed reading your story. I thought you were setting it up to be a feral cat, so I was surprised to find out it was a skunk. Makes sense, though. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Thank you. I did start out with a cat in mind, but cats are not loners like a skunk.

As I read this, I wondered what kind of animal or spirit or some thing other than human was speaking here, lol! One usually remembers if they have siblings, after all:-)
Very well written - you stay on point and keep us guessing until the end. I wasn't sure what you could DO to a dog that wouldn't harm him, but now I get it.
Very clever - good luck with the contest.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Skunks are solitary animals, especially the males.

You had me here until the final line, although I suspected this could be the words of another animal. I enjoyed your inventive words here, a fine story and I was entertained, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

This was a unique take on loneliness. I never gave the life of a male skunk much thought other than "eww!" Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you. Eww, is right. That's why skunks live solitary lives.

This story is creative and humorous. I was expecting an animal and tried to guess which one as I read. I was totally stumped when the protagonist had a way of dealing with dogs without doing bodily harm. I chuckled at the twist at the end. I never suspected a skunk. Poor dogs. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. Skunks are pretty much solitary animals, especially the males. The females raise their young, but don't stay with them after they can care for theirselves.
