This poem made me laugh. I could picture the kid going to school like that and the teacher saying what's that on your head, and the kid grinning and saying a hat, miss lol. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Have a great day.

All kids go through a period when - learning's getting bothersome! For some it lasts forever. For others not as long and they rejuvenate and get back to studying.
I'm glad your note clarified the possum issue, because I also was unsure of the photo.

I like this is a cute poem. I think many people have brains that a play possum from time to time. A lot of the are politicians! Good luck in the contest.

I liked your poem. Typical children, would rather play with a possum instead of listening to boring lessons. We have many possums in Oz, usually take up residence in the crawl space. They can be vicious. Not an animal for a child.

Hi K, I've heard about the possum being mean. This was a picture of my grandson but that possum, I'm sure you read in my authors notes, was just a little picture trickery by an app called Snapchat. Do you really live at a place called Oz? You always have such a great sense of humor so wasn't sure!

You have a smooth flow of rhyming words that captures the feel of school being blah this time of year. I like your last line "brain playing possum'. It sums up the first two lines. Excellent 5-7-5 poem that captures a clear feeling.

This is a witty mono-rhyme poem which tells of the time when school starts getting mundane. Playing possum is a good metaphor for the brain taking a rest from school work without really planning to.
