You told this story very well. I could almost imagine your emotions by the way you describe this. I am glad things worked out for you. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Well, you, one of my new fave authors (and it's a long list -- there are some wonderful writers here) this time I have a suggestion -- "My older brother stills and gapes..."

Since we didn't know he was busy, 'stills' doesn't quite fit, I think. Better something more common like, 'stops what he's doing' and gapes...

Just my opinion, but when I love work, whether prose or poetry, and I think my suggestion is an improvement, I will spend the time and effort in my review... (in other words, "nitpick". LOL)

Fabulous otherwise. :) You anchored the scene, paced the story beautifully, and evoked emotion. And since I see this is biographical, here's wishing you the very best in your decision.

Good luck in the contest. :)

That's a long way to go. I hope you are happy in the new life you have created for yourself. I find it good to move. It opens the mind to new opportunities. A well composed piece of writing and an enjoyable read.

My move in 1983 from Hopatcong, NJ to south jersey was difficult. A big decision with also having a 12 month old, Had no choice since I changed jobs.

Good story.
Cheers... John

That was many years ago, 1983, but one never forgets.

It is always great to embark on new adventures. Sounds like you were receptive to what seemed an impossible dream, but a wonderful idea that unfolded at just the right time.
-writer communicates well that this attitude, reconsidering a previously formed opinion has led to a new beginning...Surprising herself.

Great you were willing to embrace this. to recognize a beautiful idea in the moment. A whole new world opens up.
Very nice. Good luck.

Thank you for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it and your feedback. I'm glad I listened to him, too, as I've gained many opportunities to grow and mature. It's been a wonderful (and a little scary as there are tornados here-I've already experienced two) experience. Thank you again for reading. Take care. :D :D

These major life change decisions are very difficult indeed. I loved my twelve years in South Cali, but I don't regret coming home. I gained time with relatives who have since passed, reconnected with friend me and family, and robbed the cradle stealing my very own beauty queen (7 years younger so not that bad)

Anyhow, nothing in life is random chance. It is all decided fate and you are sailing firmly in your charted course. Nice work. God Bless!

Seems like a tough decision made after finally coming to grips with your situation. Your brother seemed to know it was time for a change for a while. Change is difficult and requires courage, but it becomes necessary when the present situation does not allow happiness. Sounds like you made the right decision. Very nicely written.

Thank you for reading and reviewing, Jim. I appreciate it and your feedback. Yes, my brother and I had this conversation for a few years, but I wasn't ready to *listen.* Now, I was, and I don't regret it. It's helped me grow and mature, and, as you said, I'm happy here, so I know I made the right choice. Thank you again for reading. Take care. :D :D

There is nothing more affirming than a kind voice "nudging" with love.

Your brother told you what you already knew, deep within. Sometimes

we have all the signs we need. We're just looking for that sign that

"All systems are go!"

Nicely written. Good work.
I found this one by looking at your bio and portfolio.
(We just communicated after reviewing your 'You Know You're a teacher' piece.)
I moved to Arkansas from California in '79 and met my wife here 12 yrs ago.
Best wishes.

Congratulations on your bold move to tear yourself away from things you were familiar with, and move thousands of miles away to another state and a new life. Your well written true story is clear and succinct, and makes it clear why you made the decision to move. Best wishes in the contest.
