Great way to explain your pain sir. Thank you very much for that vivid and chronological correct piece of information. But I must say from my own place and time .If we knew better back then we would be able to do better now. Live and learn. Thank you...for your truth.

May I ask why you only rated the 4 stars? You don?t explain what you found wrong.

I do think I reviewed this quite a while ago.
Earl before we really started reviewing each other as regularly as today.
...
My dad didn't die in any of the two wars and neither did my grandpop.
He wa in World War I.
Grandfather Bill Lickfield died in 60 too from the third heart attack.
He was a stocky but strong man also German and killed seven Germans.
While Dad was a little different lean and taller in the Korean War and then World War II and unfortunately after even a 26-year career on four Destroyers this Naval chief petty officer let the bottle take him down in 1972.
Thanks for sharing this and have a Blessed Day.
Doctor Ricky

I was amazed when the deaths sustained in the American Civil War, was a tad greater than every other theatre of war, Americans killing Americans, mind you, the young men who died in these wars wasn't their fault, beautifully written blessings Roy

So much truth in this, Earl. We thank all of them for their service and their ultimate sacrifice. They are the closest men and women to a living God. No one in my eyes comes closer. Beautifully done! Best, JohnC

Thank you for sharing this poem with us. Yes, we must never forget, but it seems our government and many have forgotten what sacrifice was made for our freedom and it dwindles away. I see this poem won awards. It should have. Congratulations.

Hi Earl,
Well, you won the contest, so you obviously know how good this poem is.
There was one point that my mind stumbled when I was reading it though. The line, "The south would turn traitor," seems too short within the other lines. It would read better with a couple of additional syllables. Using something like "Was when the south would turn traitor," would smooth it right out.
The other thing I would suggest is changing the font color to something light. The military green background, which I like very much, makes the black a little more difficult on the older eyes. The bold helps, but it's still dark on dark. Perhaps the yellow from the camo would work better. Anyway, just a suggestion for those of us going blind because we're here too much. lol
It was a wonderful poem.
Susan :)

This is a great poem well written and presents the topic with a perfectly matched photo. The stark reality of the headstones along with your words brings the truth of freedom is NOT free. Thank you for sharing!

I just wish they didn't have to do it at all, but that's a discussion for another day.

You have done a nice job of outlining a few of the many conflicts our armed forces have faced over generations of time.

I like your reference to "a garden of stone" - my trip to Arlington several years ago really highlighted what you're referring to.

We honor them.

Congratulations on your win for this contest.

Pam
