Hi Wendy,
This is a well told story about misunderstandings. Halfway through the story, I was thinking they might be siblings. I don't think a couple would be so out in the open about and affair in church. I can see this happening. There are a lot of siblings that don't look alike. How embarrassing for the woman if she confronted them without talking to her husband.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Joan

Thank you Joan. Yes, she would have been embarrassed, but they would probably have burst out laughing! hank you for your congratulations.

LOL Thank you for sharing this contest entry. I have two blue eyed blond hair sons and two brown eyed brown hair sons. Two look like their dad and two look like me. My mom has blue eyes and blonde hair. I passed on my mom's genes twice. I do understand how these things happen. It's funny that it does. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you, for the review and for the good wishes. Great review. Yes, no one would ever guess mine are siblings. And my daughter has three (a boy with red hair and freckles, the second son with light brown hair and olive skin, then a the dark haired girl with pale skin but no freckles ). Genetics is most interesting.

Awesome surprise ending.

Seemed nosy Suzy learned not to meddle in other people's affairs, or try to stir rumors up, especially since she was so far off base with her assumptions.

Jack sure set her straight.

Thank you Brett for reviewing. (She was not actually stirring up rumours but asking her husband in his role as pastor about what she feared was going on. Anyone else in the church would have set her straight, as everyone else knew they were siblings.) Yes, it was more a mistaken assumption, but there?s a pretty good warning in it. I am glad you enjoyed the ending.

Snoopy Mrs. Cravitz peeking through curtains! Church gossip is most certainly alive and well in all the churches that I have been in.

Was having Tim's hair blond and then the babies red a mistake or intentional. That was the only hiccup for me.

Good stuff. I did guess it before the end. Nice work!

Thanks so much for the review. Truth to tell she didn't gossip - she only asked her husband in his role as pastor, because she was genuinely concerned and perplexed. If she'd spoken to any church member, they would have set her straight, as everyone in the church knew they were siblings, but the pastor and his wife were still fairly new. You are right re your pick-up. My son was blond with some gingery-red in his beard, and the baby had red hair, so I have edited that to make it absolutely right. Thank you!

Oh my. This is so much more funny now that I know it is true! Very, very good!!!

Lol. Oh that is good! Uncle and nephew are so alike in looks and personality still. My daughter has almost black hair and dark eyes - her school nickname was Indian Princess. Lol. My husband came from India (several generations), and theoretically there was no Indian blood, but she recently had her DNA tested (16% Indian - unexplained!) My son looks more like my mother's side (fair, blue eyes, some ginger, some redheads on her side!) Really no-one ever believes they are siblings, lol.

I tried to nominate you, for picking up about the hair, but I have used up my quota for the month. I'll try to remember in a few days.)

No worries. I won it last month. Somebody else?s turn! I was just glad to be of help.

This is a really good dialogue that sounds like a lot of people who jump to conclusions. You pull of the ending perfectly because there has been enough discussion to really feel kind of sorry for the minister's wife. She could have found out they were brother and sister rather easily, but she was too busy worrying about the relationship to ask.

Thanks Carol, a great review. Yes, she could have, but the thought didn?t enter her head because they were so unalike. Lol.

My kids specialize in that as they had the same mother but different fathers. One is fair and German looking. One is mistaken for a Mexican. Another is Black. And the fourth (the only girl in this troop that we took custody of) is very unusual looking and discovered she has a lot of Neanderthal characteristics.

Lol. That's a real mix. My daughter was often nicknamed Indian Princess (my husband is from India, but of Scottish descent, theoretically no Indian blood - yet she had her DNA tested and has 16% Indian DNA) whereas our son is tall and blond (a bit gingery in beard) with blue eyes - and that's more my mother's side of the family!

Hi Wendy,
This is a good entry for the Dialogue Only Writing contest. I enjoyed it. We all stereotype people at times, don't we? We wonder about them, pigeon-hole them. This can lead to misinformation and finally, gossip. Not good. There might be a solid explanation, as Suzy found out.
Did you know that the 18th of March, June, September, and December are called Pigeon-to-Butterfly Days. Instead of holding on to ideas about someone, for years even, we should just let them go. Allow transformation, like the butterfly. We don't categorize them any longer. Instead we allow them to blossom.
Nicely penned, Wendy! I wish you Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you for a super review! No I have never heard of that about those days, but it is a wonderful idea and I will try to find out more about them. Why don?t you write a piece about that? It would be a wonderful and positive thing to share.

Lol, I was wondering where this conversation was heading! Didn't see that one coming. I found writing dialogue-only was more difficult than I thought it would be. You did a great job! Best wishes in the contest.

Just goes to show you that not everything is as it seems. The one thing in the story that is odd is why doesn't Isabella introduce her brother to the church community? This feels like a story to be continued...

Thank you Ginda for reviewing. It was the pastor and his wife who were relatively new to the church. Tim and Isabella had been there since childhood and everyone on the church knew they were siblings, and so weren?t in the least concerned. Hope that explains better.

This story, Not Appropriate, is a fast-paced revelation as Suzy unloads this built-up and pent-up feeling predicated on her misunderstanding. This is so very real in social circles I assume.
