The older I'm getting, the more my past memories are coming into the light again. It's the ones I had last week that remain illusive! Lol. You did a wonderful job with this one, it's fabulous. Well done!! :)) Sandra xx

This is a gorgeous poem with a gorgeous picture. I like the sound of "robust luster" together. And sadly, reflections of reflections do grow dimmer too soon.

Time and Reflections is a great topic for a free verse perspective poem. You have taken us on a journey with you as you wander through the past that reveals memories of people, places and events.

Well done and Happy New Year with time to make new memories to reflect upon.
Blessings
Janet

I suppose this is the time of reflection and mussing on the past year, that is about to leave and is lost in myriad that is the past, and wonder what the immediate future will bring. Beautifully written free verse Jim. A happy, healthy and prosperous new year to you and yours, blessings Roy

You've written a very thought-provoking poem about the nature of memories of past events and why they grow dimmer over time. It was very well done with all your imagery of clouds and lighthouses and wind on waves.

I recently read an article that claims that you are not actually remembering events from long ago, but instead you are remembering the last time you thought about the event. So, if you never think about an event, you probably won't remember that it happened long ago. The things you do remember are the things you've thought about often over the years. Your poem is consistent with that. It's really time that accounts for the haziness or the loss of memories and not necessarily the significance of the events.

I like this poem and the idea behind it. The imagery is good and I see what you are trying to do with your repeat of the word 'reflection(s)'. However, that repetition does seem a bit haphazard in places. For example, you have not used it in stanza two, while you have used it twice in stanza one. I think that I word have tried to be a bit more consistent in some way. Nevertheless, the poem does read well.

A deep reflective write as we remember those faces and places in the past with great fondness and as we reflect on the previous year, it sometimes creates a tear or two, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Yes, it is the natural patina of time that takes away some of that glimmer from our memories. But that does not take away from the value or beauty of them. Some might shine more than others. Altogether they are the reflective gold, silver and copper pieces in the treasure chest of our lives. Beautiful piece.

This is lovely and very well written. It's definitely food for thought about why certain memories stand out, while others don't. For me, I think I remember the best of times because it's too painful to recall the worst of times. Thank you for sharing.
