That was the plan anyway.

Good ending to this particular post as it leaves the reader (at least this reader) with some open ended beginnings to the next chapter(s).

Well done as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers. John

Thanks, John. It's an ambitious plan for E.J. Let's see if he can stick to it. Chapter 27, which is out today, is back to Abby for a bit.

Jim, I must say I'm really impressed by this chapter. Having been at this writing game for 65 + years, I've easily been able to pick out someone who is trying too hard to fit into the image that he or she has of a writer. Usually, this person is new to writing and thinks that his or her words have to slot into a style that defines the craft. I don't see that in you at all. My guess is that you have grown beyond that ... or you have been fortunate to have seen it coming and avoided it. Your writing is crisp, but conversational and sounds like someone who is sitting across from me at the table from me and just wanted to tell me what interesting event had happened to him that day. Now, I didn't know what the "Lucky 1" was that you kept in your pocket, and wished I knew (and would have asked that person sitting across the table from me), but I assumed you had mentioned it in a previous chapter. If you hadn't, that is one small area I think you should consider clarifying. I don't think it was a ball. that would have been awkward, so I am left with a tee. But these are mighty small considerations alongside the rest of the consummately told tale.

Keep entertaining me and perhaps next time I'll have a six to give you ... that you certainly deserve.

Jay, thank you so much. I am especially appreciative of such high praise from someone whose writing I very much enjoy and which is so very excellent as well.

The Lucky 1 is, indeed, a golf ball and, as clumsy as it is to carry around in his pocket all the time, E.J. thinks it is a good luck charm. After he found it on the edge of a pond, he used one of his player's clubs to make a hole-in-one with it. The next day he repeats the feat, then vows he will never be without it again. His life takes an immediate turn for the better with the help of his new friend, Abby.

The ball has a special role later in the story.

I am fairly new to fiction writing, though I've been a reader for many years. My writing style is simple and straightforward without a lot of description, which I am unable to write effectively.

If you choose to read it, the next chapter, which will come out on Dec. 26, will feature the other main character, Abby, who is in her senior year of college. Lester is her cat.

All he needs is a good woman! It looks as if EJ is turning his life round, although I'm not sure about his bending the rules- I don't play golf! Your still have a few more twists - I want to know about the lucky ball!

He actually followed the rules perfectly; he was just counting on the fact that his opponents didn't know them. Not too many know that particular rule.

Yes, there are definitely some more twists coming in which the ball plays a significant role. It won't be for a while, though. We're just a little short of the halfway point in the story now. It's an 80,000 word story that translates to about a 300 page novel.

It sounds like E.J. is somehow trying to get his life back on track. That was a pretty neat stunt he pulled on those guys. Your story is nicely written and easy to follow. Nice work.

Thank you so much. He IS trying. Just one more major hurdle to cross.

Apart from knowing God and that incentive, which was enough for me to stop "vicing", sometimes a girl will do it. Abby is the best thing to happen to E.J. Gee being a near scratch golfer is great, I was a competing athlete until my early forties, and cricket is a similar discipline to golf, orthodox cricket shots as a batsman, are as unnatural as the golf swing, a lot of good cricketers are also great golfers. Beautifully written blessings Roy

Abby is definitely the best thing that has happened to E.J. She will also begin to lean on him soon. It will be a symbiotic relationship.

Thanks for the kind words, Roy.

That is good, mutuality is needed in any relationship

Well, his time in sunny Florida was brief. I guess the majority of his journey and story takes place around Brentwood. The readers do see the growth in E.J.'s confidence, I mean, he is hustling now. That takes a pair. Glad he got a car too. He's saving money, making long term plans, becoming an adult.

Well done.

Yep, you've got it: he's finally growing up. He just has one major hurdle to overcome, and in the process, we'll find out the real reason for the Lucky 1.
