A very written poem that tells a story of yesteryear's Christmas that I also remember so well. We never had kids, but we did have great times with each other and friends and relatives. Today it's just me. I outlived them mostly. But I still got my car and my memories. Good job. Terry.

Excellent. I was out of 6 stars or you would have received one just because your last line about the car was spot on. Good fun poem with quite a bit of nostalgia. Christmas is that time of year to be with family. Merry Christmas.

We don't see our elder daughter very often these days at Christmas, they live 2,000 kms away, and we have our younger daughter living locally, with two divine grandchildren, this is beautifully written Jim, well done, blessings Roy

Your free verse for the club read well, JLR. Your lines
flowed smoothly with good details and created great
imagery. It is a different world today compared to some
years back. It seems to me those days will never return.
You did a great job expressing your thoughts and feelings
about the lost connections with family at Christmas.
Thanks for participating, Jan

This Holiday rant speaks of a Family tradition, possibly long past.
Rich in Theme and Imagery as Holiday Fresh baked Christmas cookies coated with red and green.
...
Holiday Traditions, gone by the Waste side.
Snow that seldoms falls on Christmas Day?
Carolers no more most too fat on Plum Pudding to fit out the front door!
And what about the reindeer that Santa depends on so very much!
They're getting so worn and old too maybe Energizer batteries will do?

...
What is Santa got so fat too and couldn't fit down the chimneys flu?
I'll never tell this secret my lips are sealed with super glue!
Thanks for sharing this and have a Blessed Christmas.

I enjoyed this poem that expressed what so many of us feel. I'm so looking forward to hugging most of my family this Christmas. (One suggestion: There WERE laughter and . . . There is never a subject. It's what comes after that is.

I can understand this one. A beauty again and so festive.

This Christmas is looking to be altered by the weather and sickness whether I like it or not. We'll see how it pans out and make adjustments. The weather is supposed to be the worst in decades. Florida is below freezing for three days over Christmas. Our grandchildren have been sick with something non covid, and we are contemplating moving the holiday celebration out a few more days. We did that last year and celebrated Christmas together on Monday. Jesus was really born in mid-September anyway, so the day we celebrate is flexible.

Sending you my best today as always and blessings for Christmas and warmth and good cheer. May you be blessed with the kids and the love shared. Virtual hugs!

So many of us can relate to this. The years both add to and subtract from our lives. We may not be able to always be together but no one can take away our memories. Savor those. Merry Christmas.

Did GE get it wrong re: Progress. Way back in the days of my youth I easily could concur how families gathered but then we lived on the same block where we grew up forever with aunts and uncles, sons and daughters. Now we are dispersed like the Israelites.

Still, the memories of youth are forever present until a disease takes them away..

Hi Jim,
This shows the happiness of family get togethers on Christmas and the loneliness of those who live in retirement homes or are homebound for one reason or another. Good entry for the picture this club post.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Merry Christmas.
Joan
