Absolutely right. Hug them while they still think it wonderful to receive hugs, and not be uncool. It isn't quite the same doing it all by Zoom, but it's better than nothing. Wishing you a nd your loved ones a happy and meaningful time.

This made me so sad. Although I am a widow, I haven't reached this stage yet. I had some of my children late in life, and so they're all still with me. But the twins just turned 14. My son is 22, but still with me. It's kinda expensive out there for the young adults these days. One day, I too will share in this fate. But like you said, there are always good friends to share the holiday season with. Beautiful job on this poem. It truly touched me. Merry Christmas.

It is sad that technology has enabled us to "miss" each other actually way more. Seeing someone via a screen makes the (non) reality a lot more difficult to take, I think. Well-done poem, and the picture you selected is fabulous.

Rachelle, thanks for the validation! Merry Christmas?

Absolutely! I'm not one of those people who gets offended by those words. As I taught my daughter one year when I heard someone wish her a Merry Christmas, and she responded with an exasperated, "I'm JEWISH!!! JEWISH, JEWISH, JEWISH!!!" (she was also four...) "If someone wishes you Merry Christmas but that's not what you celebrate, then it's the same thing as if they wished you a 'Happy Monday.' And saying anything back to them except 'Thank you! Same to you!' is very rude and ungrateful." It's all such hooey, isn't it? Why would anyone be "offended" by someone wishing them good cheer? When I rule the world, things are going to be so different, JLR!! xo

It hurts to be away from family, especially this time of year. There is nothing like being close to them, as your brilliant poem explains, but aren't we lucky to have zoom. We can still see those we love. Thank you for sharing. :)

Thos poem was a look at the unfortunate part of life. Families do grow up and move away. Life keeps us from being able to get together or spend time. The coat of travel is now outrageous. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday. Gretchen

Last Christmas, using Zoom, I shared the gift opening process with my friends who were in Kentucky at the time. Zooming is certainly not as good as being there, but it's infinitely better than not being able to share the occasion at all. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

The time when kids are under our roof is all to brief. Fortunately our children continue to live in the same metropolitan area so we will be able to coordinate a time to get together between their commitments to families of spouses. Not as carefree and casual as it once was but I'll take it. Merry Christmas.

Sending you Christmas wishes. It must be really hard feeling a sense of family a sense and knowing it's not what it use to be for you. My kids are all under 11, so your poem reminds me that seasons are going to change but I have a choice how we celebrate now and the family bonds and memories we make together now so that my children can one day take these special times to share with their own families one day. I'm so pleased you have others to share the season with who are in your shoes. May you find those small moments that spark joy and reflection and remind you of all the things you are grateful for. Thank you for sharing a different perspective of Christmas.

This started out very warm and happy but took a turn for
The sad and depressing.

It is well written and drives home the point that getting old sucks!

Great advice, Jim. I can't be with my kids and grandkids as I am with my mom after my dad's passing. This Christmas is all about getting ready for a funeral.
Hope you stay safe and have a great gathering even if on zoom.
