I should have read this one first. You are so right. That place is full of earthquakes and I agree with Joy about the circumstances. I would not want to know either.

I enjoyed your story and look forward to your continuation. It made me want to visit Italy. You had a bit of bad luck with earthquakes as well as one of the group losing his dad. Life just happens. The writing is well done. Have a happy holiday! Sarah

Thank you Sarah. I'm so glad you enjoyed story. The next part is about the Isle of Capri. It is already out there.

This brought back memories. I remember those seven course meals that lasted for hours. And Frank told me about the difference in their pizzas. And oh, those nerve-wracking bus rides on narrow streets! And then along the high winding roads. How devastating that an earthquake destroyed the awesome architecture that marked bascilicas.

It sounds a lot like what I experience when I was there. I do really love being in Italy. I've since seen other countries but I think this might be my favorite.

Italy would be my first choice too. Great ambiance.

Wow, a lot of different things happened during this part of the
trip, Beth. Even so, it seemed you still made the best of it all.
Your cousin seemed to know all of the best tips for traveling.
I wonder how the small tote bag you packed held out. There
would be so much to see of a historical nature. The new place
that was found quickly after the earthquakes sounded relaxing.
It would be hard to continue with the loss the one of the group
experienced. I would have been like you and calling home to
report.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Thank you Jan. As far as the small suitcase. I was able to get about six outfits into it and by mixing and matching, we made out fine. It is good to travel light. Since that time I've realized how much less stressful it is with a light load.

"the several floors" should be several floors.

A lot of damage to the basilica and the frescos.

So much to see and do in that part of the world, and plenty of it is ancient. Sounds like a pleasant excursion.

Thank you Brett, it was a pleasant excursion and I wasn't that disappointed about not seeing Assisi. I saw plenty of churches and museums on my trip and coast and blue water were beautiful.

Hi Beth, yes, the Amalfi coast is very beautiful. I'm so glad you got to see that now that Assisi was out of bounds. When it comes to meals, that is the latin countries way of enjoying a meal. Just yesterday, I was out with a good friend of mine having lunch. We spent three hours over our meal and wine chatting away. That's how it is and should be. It's very relaxing.
As you know.I love to follow the story

Thank you Ulla. I'm glad I got to see some of the world. When you have great company, you can enjoy relaxing over a long meal. The Italians seem to know how to do that.

Thank you for continuing to share these memoirs with us. Yes, while living in Germany it was very hard to keep the children quiet during the afternoons. My boys wanted to play outside on the playground but couldn't during German quiet hours.

I visited Germany the following year but I didn't realize they had quite hours. However all of Europe did sort of shut down in the middle of day. Thank for reviewing a chapter on my trip.

Traveling to see foreign places is always an enjoyable pleasure no matter the circumstances. But I've usually found that no matter how much fun I have and enjoy what I see and experience, it's always nice to get home. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric. I agree. Sometimes to much staying at home gets to me but getting back after a long trip makes me appreciate home more than ever. I usually need several days to rest up.
