I enjoyed reading your honest and poetic account of war and specifically the Vietnam War. The sad truth must be told but rarely if ever had been. I was born in 1966 in NYC and I had much older siblings. My oldest brother was 17 when I was four. He protested the war and told me s lot. Our house was on a highway. It was near the airports and my brother went as far to tell me that the big cats driving by were taking young men to war then bringing their dead bodies back. So, since four years old, I have drawn pictures related to that unfairness and I have always been against the unnecessary act of war. War is a failure to start. It is a cry to say, "I could not find another answer because I am a failure!" Putin cried that and continues to cry that out in my view. Thank you for writing this. Peace and best wishes! â??ï¸?

I totally agree with your writing. War is tragic, and so many young lives are lost for no apparent reason. My brother was in Nam and died a terrible death from cancer caused by agent orange. Wars are usually the wish of one person, like Putin. Look at all the needles deaths he has caused with his wish to control more land. It's stupid at best.

A sad, sad poem, well-written and moving, telling a story that we need to seriously consider, and never forget. Thank you for this reminder.

only one typo:
***A war thier (their) lies had first begun.

This is a remarkable piece of work! I wasn't sure where this was going by the title, but I certainly understand the meaning behind your words.

The meter was perfect and this read almost like a ballad. I'm guessing tragedy struck Tony and Jim.

We hear so much about soldiers' suicides, and I can't help but wonder if there are more these days or it's just because we're being told about it. If our soldiers were treated with more dignity, there would be less. The very least society owes them is a job and a place to live. And, of course, all the necessary healthcare. Hugs, Lilly

War and hostility since the beginnings of man. War and hostilities until the end of man. I liked this one. It is a 'thinker'. Gets the ok brain housing unit fired up. I know it's a good one when smoke comes out of my ears.

Seriously, nice work!

A very well-written and intensely emotional poem describing the horrors not only of battle but also of the politicians who, for whatever reason, find the need to send young men into battle. It's a sad statement about war but an accurate one.

Technically, the poem flowed beautifully with excellent, unforced rhyming and meter. Really well done.

This is a good one, Everett. If this world doesn't find a way to get along, there is going to be hell to pay in not too many years. It is sad to see the psychological condition that some of the soldiers come back in.

As a Vet I understand and agree with the battle after the war that you describe. Coming home was, for too many, harder to cope with than fighting the 'whoever' foe. There is far more ways to kill a soldier than with a bullet. But, still, the fight is worth it. Thank you for this wonderful poem.

E.E.,
This is the most beautiful poem I have ever read about the demise of soldiers who return home with guilt and depression.

I am a vet who was hospitalized in a veteran's hospital, and heard many gut-wrenching stories about viet nam and other combat vets who were tormented by their memories of war.

I was not in combat, but suffer from depression, so your words were emotional to me.

I regret not having six stars to give you, but I hope my review gets you closer to an "All Time Best" ranking.
Blessings and good luck,
Cindy

As an ode to the veterans who we are losing at an alarming rate...for ONE is alarming, I say thank you for calling out the ravages of wars. Politicians create rationale but it's the good that die young when fighting a "just" war--which is "just" insane and a hazard of being human in an inhuman world. Holy run on sentence. Sorry. This one cuts to the bone.
