I found this a good chapter which not only gives thought to the past, it is a stepping stone for what lies ahead for the reader.

Continue on, stay the course. To me it seems to be working.

You get into the character of Abby very well here. The sense of loss and abandonment are very well evoked! You have captured her sense of loneliness and abandonment.

Thank you Sarah. I've had several false starts in developing Abby's character in the most interesting way. In my first draft, she was ultra-confident, even at a young age, and seemed impervious to the ill-treatment she received from her peers, but there was little room to grow as a character with this approach. I'm currently on my third draft of the novel, and I think she is more interesting this way.
