I was not aware of the Honor Flight Network and all they do to honor World War II and terminally ill veterans from all wars. Prior to retirement, I was a counselor with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and would have been delighted to welcome World War II veterans home. I can only imagine how you felt being asked to as a veteran, to participate. Congratulations on your well deserved win.

I have read of these flights. We have them leave from our
airport, and it is always done with great care for those mean
and women. The sponsors are at times local reporters. They
periodically give a report to those back home of the itinerary
of the Veterans. I enjoyed reading your account from your POV.
You gave readers great and detailed information about everything

Your story brings a tear to my eye and a memory of an honor flight a few years ago. I was asked to read one of my poems to the veterans who were returning from one of those honor flights. As were you, I was deeply moved.
