What a great, concise little story that fulfills the needs of several people. It's both sad and joyous, in that an aunt and uncle could help a little girl feel loved and wanted as grandparents would. It was a good read.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I'm older than you are at seventy-six. I still think fondly of my aunt Grace.

Imagine how much that one simple act ended up meaning to both of you.

Sounds like your aunt was a special person in your life.

All most children want is someone they can depend on in a role no one else can fill.

Thank you. Aunt Grace was special to me. She lived to be 103, and I still called her Grandma until the day she died.

What a beautiful story! I am sure she filled a void in your life, and you were equally special in hers, enriching each other's lives. Your story is clearly written, interesting and very moving. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Being number ten of twelve children, of course you would want a Grandma and Grandpa to make up for the lack of attention at home (I assume this happened because there were so many for your parents to handle). Good for the Aunt and Uncle to come to the rescue. I'm glad you mentioned some of the activities the three of you did together.

Thank you. I almost didn't enter this contest because I don't remember any of my grandparents. Than I said what the heck, I did have substitute grandparents. They deserve the honor of a story about them.

This is a touching story of a kind aunt who was probably very happy to be your pretend grandma. I love your creative take on the prompt. You wrote about a grandma who wasn't really a grandma at all. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. I have wondered about my natural grandparents my whole life. I have never forgotten my aunt's kindness to a sad little girl. Aunt Grace lived to 103, and I called her Grandma until the day she died.

Thank you. They were kind and caring folks. I will never forget them. My uncle died when I was young, but my aunt lived to be 103. I called her Grandma until the day she died.

This is a lovely story. Your grandma and grandpa seem like wonderful people. I know how they must have felt. I never had children of my own but I have surrogate children and grandchildren who call me Nana. I love them very much and they reciprocate. I'll be babysitting for them tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

A-h-h - not often we get a chance to read an article penned with such sincerity and told with such an observant eye- no frills, just the event as it happened- would that there were more such articles written in our media age -has my vote- what a lovely pic.

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. They are appreciated. I never forgot my aunt or her kindness to a sad little girl. I couldn't understand why other kids had grandparents, and I didn't.
