It's a warm hearted scene of tenderness and illustrates that a simple word from a kind aunt can turn around the sadness. And it's a challenge to the rest of us to do the same thing when we're called upon to come up with one. estory

This is very sweet and wonderful.

The script is hard to read and a little offsetting. When the story is this good, you don't need fancy optics to carry it.

I suspect this will be strong in the competition. Nice work!

Thank you. Did you find it hard to read? I read it myself and didn't find it difficult. I keep trying the different styles they offer with the advanced writing.

Such wonderful people. My own grandparents passed away when I was a kid and I really understand the need to have this form of foster grandparents. All the best to you and your family.

Thank you. I never forgot the kindness my aunt bestowed on a sad little girl. I called her Grandma until the day she died.

I'm sure your adoptive grandma would have loved as any grandma could. I know I adore my grandchildren, as I know my wife, they love us back, and that seems so natural to me. I never met either one of my grandfathers, and didn't really know my grandmothers well, so I know how you felt. Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

What a heartwarming story! I commend you for bringing your aunt (Grandma!) and uncle here and celebrating their lives.
You had a huge family, and I'll bet your Mom was happy to see one or teo of you spend some time away from home.
I liked your ake on your childless aunt, she must have enjoyed your time together as much as you did.

Dear Author,
I'm sure you filled a special place in their hearts for sure. Back then everyone wanted children, and families. It sounds as though your aunt and uncle just weren't that lucky. I'm sure that the chance to become 'grandparents' even in that way, was just a boon to their souls. There's nothing like being chosen for the job. :)

Thank you. I never forgot my aunt's kindness. She lived to 103, and I still called her Grandma.

Like your story. A Gappa and Gamma are great company for their grandchildren or great-grandchildren. They always say that they enjoy it more because when they cry, they can send them home to mommy and daddy.

This story, Substitute Grandparents, is one that really touches my heart. Your aunt was truly a special woman and knew how to fill that obvious need you had to have normalcy.

What a delightful story. It was a pleasure to read. I'm glad things worked out for all of you. My dad's mother died when he was a teen, and he and his father never got along, so dad lived with a childless couple like your aunt and uncle. I always called them grandma and grandpa. We didn't see them often. I lived in Ohio and they lived in Florida. Thanks for the fine memories. Good luck in the contest.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Stories like this warm my heart. My maternal grandmother was sort of gruff and distant with most of her grandkids. My paternal grandmother, I did not meet until I was 28 years old, so I kind of missed that close relationship with a grand mother as well. I never met my maternal grandfather. I met my paternal grandfather around the same time I met my paternal grandmother but not together, as they had long been divorced. Oddly, I had an Aunt Grace who I was very close to, her oldest son was four years younger than me. His birthday was on April first, and mine was on April second.

Thank you. My birthday is April 2nd too. I heard, from my older siblings, that my maternal grandmother was a harsh person. I think I was lucky to have my aunt Grace. I have never forgotten what she did for one sad little girl.
