This is a lovely, thoughtful interpretation of the artwork for the Picture This club, JLR. Not only telling the story of those in the portrait but also the viewers of the portrait. Well done,
cheers.

This has some nice sensory images with metaphors and similes. Interesting. I just phrased some of what you are addressing. Some will identify with the caring, cuddily, protective, attentive mother and begin to grieve that which they did not have. I am comforted by the fact the there will be those readers with such emotional deficits.

Hi,
A picture can indeed tell quite a tale or perhaps several more.
The image seems so simplified yet obviously provoked much thought in
penning your poem.
Mother don't often have the time to just sit, ponder, or plan, especially in our fast paced modern world.
You've done a great job deciphering some possibilities here.
Blessings
Shirley

Very strong imagery here to further on a deeper meaning of the artwork. Back in those times marriage did often occur at a much younger age.

You have well expressed the imagination of a warm mother and the sadness one might feel at having never experienced that emotion.

Just one small typo in the subtitle:

A picutre (picture) can create thousand words

Excellent contribution to the club.

Your words were well chosen to describe this picture. It could be interpreted in so many ways, but you have caught the essence of it. I would wonder what story this mother had read to her son, and what memories and thoughts it has brought to her mind.

I feel this way when I look at my own wedding photos and early married years. I was thinking of many things and was filled with hope for my future. Sending you my best today for this marvelous poem,
Sal :))

A child bride is a girl as young as ten. Does your poem focus on a child bride this young? Girls this age legally are getting married in the United States - with no protective federal law in place, over 20 states allow for child marriage at 16 years, and 10 have no age limit whatsoever. I am sure there are many stories that would unfold in their lifetime. I just can't imagine a child bride this young, but I am sure years ago there were several.

That certainly wasn?t my intention I am 74 my mom gave birth to me when she was sixteen, my Da was 24, so I guess my Irish roots could be judged negatively
reply by Rosemary Everson1 on 08-Nov-2022
I hope that you don't think that I am judging your mom's age; because I am not. I just feel that a child that is 10 years old is not ready for a marriage.

I could not agree more fully - A child is a child period.

This work has reached the exceptional level

The mother looks at the door wary of strangers or perhaps the father, who has a temper. The boy sleeps in her lap after being read a storybook which is in his mother's hand. Lovely put and very effectively written.

At the top the word "picture" is a typo. Best wishes. Jan.

I like the way you approached this poem. Quite a bit different from the way I approached it which is a good thing. I love seeing how other people write things.

You have certainly penned a very thought-provoking piece here. It is true that there can be many ways of interpreting the artwork here. I have yet to write my own, as I continue to ponder the possibilities. I enjoyed yours very much. Duality indeed.
