Oh! So, Bennie is a cousin? I guess I missed that before. I have to say there are few "saints' in this world that wouldn't (for at least a moment) at least entertain the idea of helping themselves to a few gems which no one would miss... And if Bennie has had a tough life, all the more reason to feel it'd be "cool." Your plots are always so interesting, Carol. That description of the jewel heist gone wrong, wrong, wrong was very well written!

The cousin part is referred by him calling him Cuz.... but later chapters will clarify. Both men have had tough lives, but different upbring which will form their thoughts on thngs.

    I must learn patience. I was this way as a five-year-old. I AM a five-year-old!

Patience isn't high on my list of virtues either. LOL

Wow, what a good chapter! The web is getting tangled, and it sounds like Bennie is not a good influence on his cousin. One suggestion for the last sentence: they raised their glass(es), imagining a better life (no quotation mark needed, as they're not speaking here. Good dialogue throughout.

    Good morning, Carol

Thanks for reading and reviewing and for enjoying. I am so happy to be back writing. As for Bennie, he grew up on the rough side and he is always wondering how to get out of the place he is, but family will always remain first.

    Hugs, Carol

This is another excellent chapter. It kept my interest from beginning to end. The hook at the end is great. I do not see any room for improvement. The picture goes well with the story.

I thought I had already reviewed this chapter, but the empty space at the bottom says otherwise. Another great chapter that I enjoyed reading. I'm eagerly waiting for the next installment. Shirley

It seems I missed this chapter, Carol, and reviewed the next one first. lol This is another great chapter. Lance and Bernie have gotten themselves into a dangerous scene. Had I read this in order, I'd be hoping they would do the right thing. Too bad too much alcohol messed up Bernie's thinking and put Lance to sleep. Well done.

Lance's past will prevent him from stealing the diamonds, but his loyalty to Bennie will tempt him. Bennie was raised by his dad and lived on the streets. Survival trumps all else. And the secret unravels so quickly.

    Yes, alcohol messes people up.

I am so impressed by your writing style...the way you bring your characters to life with realistic thoughts, feelings, and dialogue. Readers can identify with Lance's honesty and fear, while understanding Bennie desire to make a dangerous situation profitable. I also appreciate that there is more than one story to wrap my brain around. Well done.

Oh you are so kind with your words and stars. I am humbled and blessed that you are enjoying the story, Lorraine. I too like to have other stories entwined with the main one.

An ethical dilemma of significant proportions has emerged along with the question of how they will get the jewels to the person. The teller will be a significant problem! Well written - kept me on the edge of my seat!

The story continues to be really engaging and quite understandable. Bennie does have a point even if morally wrong. Seems like they should find that grandson but that teller could cause them a lot of trouble already.

I guess it is human nature kicking in to think you deserve something more for risking you life if this story gets out. It sounds like the lawyer has plans to try to do the right thing and not be a thief but I'm not so sure about his cousin., This is antoher good chapter. I'm looking forward to reading more if I ever get caught up.

Hi,
Although this is the first chapter I've read, I've found it very interesting.
You've created two distinctive characters with very different voices.
Thanks for sharing. I've enjoyed it very much.

First and foremost, I want to thank you for continuing to read and enjoy the story. You put a smile on my face. I appreciate your time and your thoughtfulness.

Sorry for the delay but we have just had our 7th death in our family and close friends this year and it's taking a serious toll on all of us. Thank you for understanding.

Apologize for the standard post.... Hugs, Carol
