Whew! I'm glad that Anthony came and put a peaceful end to the fight that Alan started with Cordero. It's good that Cordero and Ali are redefining their relationship and even considering the name that Alan called Cordero. That adds humor to their dialogue.
"her and Grandpa had taken before she died" (she and Grandpa) I've heard casual speech using "her" instead of "she" as the subject but more in Texas. I don't know if a native New Yorker would do that.

They are. My husband was active military, so we've lived all over the US and have had fun with all different dialects. LOL

So ... the open question for this reader is how long can Cordero stay away from Ali while he knows that Alan will stop at nothing to get her back for himself. With that silent threat in the background, I can see no way their relationship can continue with her in N.Y. and him on the Ranch. I'm sure that will comprise much of the next chapter or two. Anthony is a handy guy to have around. Maybe Ali should take him back to Texas. Alan chose to belittle Cord, but what precisely are Alan's credentials? He certainly isn't the brightest bulb, if he can't get it through his head that Ali wants nothing to do with him. It's brought out that Ali has benefited from the best schools, etc., but that has apparently led to her leading such a sheltered life. Cord shouldn't have been bothered by Alan's reference to "boy toy." At least Cord isn't delusional. Alan makes a threat. We'll see if he tries any more interference. He's such a slow learner. You get my first six! I really enjoyed this, especially when Ali had a go at him for being so stupid about education etc. When she put it to him that she knew nothing about ranch life and told him she must be ignorant, and living at his ranch free of charge, making her a kept woman, that was brilliant. But we still have that creep Alan to deal with, I make a bet he's not finished yet. But Ali will be better off living at the ranch, happily married to Cord!!! LOL. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx
