Hi estory, I think I have said it before. You have really become a master of this style in your poetry. I like it a lot. It short, concise and to the point. Yes, electricity is a lifeline to most of what we do. Ulla:)))

very powerful and evocative poem about electricity that powers our life and our devices. One factoid you might appreciate is that the telegraph which was invented in the 1840s was originally called "lightening" and that term was used until the 1870's when the current term, "telegraph" replaced it. I kind of wished they had kept the term "Lightening".

If you have ever lived without electricity then you certainly appreciate its importance in life. I lived on a boat for a few weeks with no electricity and it is possible to live without it, but life is far easier with it! I enjoyed your tribute to the world of exploding arcs here, just keep your fingers away from it, as it will stop your heart! Love Dolly x

Thanks for the excellent review and for your perspective on the poem. That is one aspect I guess I didn't bring into this piece is that we have become so dependent on electricity. Think of going without air conditioning or refrigerators, TV and home stereos. And it really has been in our lives for only about a hundred years or so. estory

This is great, thank you. Electricity and people have a lot in common. Wires remind me of veins. Honestly, some people act like machines; they are cold as ice. I appreciate you sharing this great post with us. I hope you have a great evening.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting comments supporting the piece. I was trying to get across how much extrapolate human characteristics to machines and also the underlying truth that although electricity powers artificial intelligence and soulless machines, it is still oddly enough a force of nature. estory

This was very interesting to read. I have always been sort of mesmerized by why and how things work. I really like the words you chose. "Liquid crystal screens" was a cool image.

"Electricity" is an exceptional poem about its title. The poem begins in explanations of electricity and then advances to an analogy with the human body.I would make two criticisms of this enjoyable piece of poetry: It doesn't mention the thing we all have experienced, whether as a static shock from scuffling on a carpet, or a strong jolt from mishandling an ungrounded circuit; the other criticism is trivial, but electricity is not supernatural; although it is distinct and different from virtually everything else, electricity is very primarily natural, a force present in all living things.

Thanks again for the exceptional review I really appreciate it. I'm not so much trying to capture the way we experience electricity in this piece so much as trying to get across how we think of artificial intelligence in human terms. estory

I am so excited about this poem for you, theoretically it is a great poem, but it could do with some refinement.

To help readers connect to these observations and your interesting way of seeing this, how could you say some of these ideas and enhance it using the powerful language of imagery. Instead of describing, just make it happen.

You have something already there as a good start:
Example: For your lines : The spark of energy that powers up its programs, And lights up its liquid crystal screens.... How could you rephrase this using the powerful image you already have in the last two lines of your poem. If you did this, what could it do for readers?

All the best.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting suggestions. I thought the lines about the liquid crystal screens were some of the better lines in the piece. I'll take a look at it and see if I think I could improve it. Sometimes time creates perspective and that leads to an improved vision of the poem. estory

Best watch out for those clicks and flashes.
One bad fuse and the house is ashes!
One fool said of fuses... this house uses too many!
Under a fuse, he placed a penny.
When the firetrucks came that night,
The entire house was burning bright.

This is the absolutely hands down best poem that I have EVER read about electricity. Of course, it is the only poem that I have read about electricity.

Still, it was very well written and detailed.

Your poem had nice flow. (Yeah I went there)

Good job!
