Migration is a US issue. I'm surprised I was left out. When I utter a few words in the company of strangers, I am politely asked about my accent. That's fifty years after my citizenship. My daughter swears I don't have an accent. My olive complexion also confirms what the old green card qualified me as an "alien." Do you believe the courts would ever side with President Obama's EO on DACA? Congress with be drafting immigration legislation for many more years to come. We rather
accept migrants illegally rather than respond to labor needs. Great poem, moderate in its approach, but factual in local attitudes. Michael

Thank you. I feel sorrow for any problems you may have encountered. Although I am a native born citizen, I was used to bring down a sergeant they wanted to punish, after this was accomplished, I was punished as a whistle blower. Go figure.

    Nomi336,
Enough books have not been written to denounce the dehumanizing horrors of black Americans kidnapping. This was no migration. The only migration was from the south to north. Injustices, like the one you experienced were and are so common. Liberty is far from truth. It?s just an ideal. A black attorney who sat on one board once warned me: ?you should wake ahead of me if you don?t want to be stopped from being with a black man?. I love your poem. More should be written. Thanks

Congratulations on your 300 post, and you did it with a strong, powerful message.
The words on the Statue are meant only for those from certain countries. (mostly European) and Christian. These immigrants have traveled thousands of miles to get here and are scorned.
I recently saw Ken Burns's documentary on the US and the Holocaust. Even when we knew that Jews were being murdered we turned them away.
It appears we do not welcome the stranger.
Best wishes,
Mary

Thank you. Looks like we as a country are not as welcoming as some may thinks us to be.

Congratulations on your 300th post!! A tremendous accomplishment, I hope you are proud.

I appreciate this verse for the strong message that it leaves with the reader.

The state of our country is inconceivable.

The minions of law makers do the dry work at the borders.

The way immigrants are treated is hurtful for all those that have come before them.

This is an important post, and I thank you for sharing it.

I thought your 300th post was a strong one! Congrats. The message of your poem is clear. The use of dialogue works well. The poem is political but not in your face so. Great job.

Well now! How nicely written. It's unfortunate that, in this world we live in, those words on the Statue of Liberty are beginning to not carry the meaning they once did for everyone. You have captured the essence of an immigrant's thoughts.

Thank you. I am born and raised in the US, but that does not prevent my sentiments regarding immigrants.

Excellent job on this most important poem. Those folks you speak of that don't understand or use immigration for political posturing are the worst our country has to offer, and the entire world sees it. We can only change this by voting out those who have lowered their bars so low they will need deep sea submarines just to reach them - unfortunately, to lower them further. Thank you for sharing this work!!
