Nice work, Nolan. I think it important that all forms of art be used for social commentary. And your message is one that we need to hear. One suggestion that you may want to consider to see how it takes - change the formatting to create more lines, with the rhyming words on the end of each (e.g., line one ends after "say."). I think it may create a better experience for the reader both visually and as it as read.

As prejudice is rife in the world, some sections of the population are regarded with disdain and it is often through experience we form such judgements, but not everyone is the same and we should keep an open mind. In Tenerife which is an island off the coast of Africa we see those poor souls brave the crossing and risking their lives to reach our island for a better life. Some of them die on the journey, but they are processed at the port and allowed to stay, I enjoyed your endearing write, love Dolly x

No one alive chose the place of their birth, so they should not be blamed for the desire to change their fortune by trying to go to someplace more desirable. We owe it to our God and creator to be kind to our neighbor. To do anything less disqualifies us as righteous beings..

That sign on the Statue of Liberty is one of the most inspiring pieces of literature ever written brother, but it's meaning has slipped somewhat over the years, I've read some of the attitudes here on fanstory and I'm appalled with the lack of hospitality and compassion where once open arms greeted the refugee. Beautifully written Nomi, blessings Roy

This situation for immigrants is so true. It is heartbreaking. This is happening all over the world unfortunately. A very thought provoking poem. Best wishes. Jen.

nomi, well said. Please feel free to disagree with those politicians who want to put an asterisk on that famous saying on the Statue of Liberty, * not in an election year. Good job. Terry.

First, congratulations on your Milestone post of 300. That is amazing and quite a feat.
Excellent poem. Most of us come from immigrants somewhere in our ancestry so I have never understood the problem with immigrants. I do believe they should go through legal channels like my ancestors did.
Good work.
Blessings
Janet

That is the system that works best, I agree. I object to the mistreatment people who do not fit into the ideal view or pattern of model citizen pleasing to the eye in dress, speech and mannerisms.

This is an interesting mix of internal and end rhymes. Your point of view and feelings of the subject comes through clearly. The reader can understand where your emotions are on the the subject and what they call for you to advocate for.

I think this is an absolutely beautiful poem that many Americans feel afraid to acknowledge. People love the idea of freedom and acceptance until it means freedom for others and accepting people who don't look like them or have the same ideas

Your words have meaning. I feel for those who are trying to establish a life here, many have come from very harsh places. And we need workers in all occupations so badly. Your poem is a reflection of our times.

Thank you. The death of so many from Covid, have left holes in the employment scene, and someone has to fill those jobs. It is foolish for Americans who benefit more from unemployment schemes to protest immigrants filling some of those jobs.
