Perhaps inspired by the terrible ravages of Hurricane Ian, Jaybird 1 reveals he understands Florida's many appeals but nonetheless chooses to stay where he is in his poem, "Florida Calling." It is heartwarming to have a writer on FS who has been writing since before I was alive, and this four stanza, four line, rhyming poem is a pleasure to read. ( I noticed two typos; in line 9, "to" should be 'too.' In line 15, 'strife' is missing an r.

It's wonderful to be content where you are. Every place one lives has "storms" of life... In Florida, it's been "IAN" and we are all very aware and concerned! Still ~ even without hurricanes and such, I'm a happy New Englander and couldn't imagine not being content with the four seasons as I experience them.

The author's words are filled with a wise decision. Florida is a great
place to live. Yet, the hurricanes are frightening. The author's reasons
for not moving to Florida are wise, well thought out, descriptive and smart.
The poem flows and connects well. Jay, have a great Sunday!....Maria

Yes, Jay, and it was a bad one. I take everything on board, what you're saying here. I have family over towards Jacksonville but they were okay. Thanks for sharing this. Ulla:)))

This is a great expression of your thoughts and feelings regarding Florida, storms, and moving. Back in 2020, you may remember, Lake Charles, Louisiana was hit by Hurricane Laura and six weeks later, Delta. That is where I live. If I lived somewhere without storms, I, like you, would definitely not want to voluntarily move to where they are.

I'm glad you are safe and sound where you are living, and I'm happy that you're happy to be there. Florida is going through a terrible time now, with that terrible hurricane. There have been so many tragedies this year with the climate change. I enjoyed reading your poem, Jay. Well done and stay safe. :) Sandra xx

"Florida Calling" is a well-written, well-rhymed, 4-stanza AA-BB scheme poem. I live in Florida, and the snowbirds have dropped off quite a bit, as the poem says. we used to get a flood of them just after Christmas. Now, not so much.

A good place to not be in when hurricanes strike. You shared well your inner thoughts about what is potentially a lovely place to live with like-minded people who enjoy warmer weather. Very nicely written.

They face a disaster. It may be nice to live near the water. However, look what it has cost. In these days and times with the current weather. It is not a great idea to live near water. I hate to hear about the damage and deaths Ian has caused. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day.
