This is my favorite of all the stories you've blessed us with.

This has been a long tradition in my family.

At age three, my grandmom gave me my first "Teddy." That's what I named him, of course!

My mom gave my son his "stuffy"-- a bear he dubbed " Toby" when he was four.

My dad gave my daughter her "stuffy" a little lamb, that she named "Nathan."
(At four!...who knows why!?)

As I write this accolade to you, my "Teddy"--now 65 years " young" is sitting atop my bookshelf, here in my bedroom.

He went to stay with each of my four grandchildren from birth to ...

Well, until my son, who will be 43 Sept. 3Oth, swapped his Toby to each of his three children...

And until my daughter, who will be 42 in November, swapped her "" Nathan," to her only child...

Eventually Teddy found his way home. He is the first joy my grandkids ask for when they sleep over...

Even though at 8/12/13 and 18 they ought to be "too old" for such "magic" -- and despite the fact that each of them have their own magic "stuffy" -- Puff, Lolly, Lima Bean, and Qaiden!

Miracles all! Magic all!

As is your now beloved story. I humbly ask for permission to share it with my family!

Tears of happiness in my eyes, John!

This deserves a much bigger readership!!!

Bravo, my friend.

Oh, Karenina, thank you for this beautiful review and the six stars. I'm honored. I pray they never get too old for the magic. My son's eyes still light up when they see their childhood stuffed animals. I think It's the only solid memory, now as adults, that they can remanence about and perhaps share with certainty in this crazy world of uncertainties.

I hope you are telling me that this is the preferred genre you were referring to. It gave this old geezer chills, John. You have such a gift. I know I've said it about other pieces that you've written, but with children's stories you have a particular genius. There's no child that can't read it, understand it, and fall in love with its message. Your story is uplifting ... and that is rare for our times. This story deserves a wider audience than FanStory. I am stunned by its power!

Oh, I think I know. Do we ever outgrow our need for acceptance by our peers? I don't think so.

What a beautiful written story about a childhood toy. I loved how you took care not to rush the plot, but to let the story unfold as it should with Tommy aging as a teenager and then maturing into manhood. I didn't care that the conclusion was foreshadowed. I knew it would end as it ended, but I was compelled to finish reading it anyway. Thanks for the large font size. The visual is okay but a stuffed racoon would be better. Maybe I am tender as I age, but it made me a bit teary. Maybe also I know that my daughter will never have a moment to share her stuffed animals and favorite childhood books with her kids. I buried her favorite Care Bear with her. Ginia was my only child. I loved your author's notes too. This is a beautifully and lovingly written story. Perhaps put a copy of this story and the author's notes in the boxes with Froggy and Snort. The story can be read as your grandkids receive them.

Thank you, Sandra, for the great review and kind words. I remember when we first reviewed on FS, and you told me about Gina. As a parent, I can only imagine that losing a child can never get easier. You're a brave woman, and I'm sure it's one of the attributes Gina loved about you. Your idea about putting this with their stuffed animals is sensational.Thank you again for this wonderful review.

You are welcome. You are making your legacy as a storyteller for your future grandkids. Be blessed. If you read "Back Away from the Brink" it talks about Ginia's death.

What a sweet, sentimental story, John. I enjoyed reading it.
You did a great job with its presentation. I could see everything
as I read. Grandma was a wise woman. Now that Tommy has grown
with a child of his own, Stitches will be making new memories.
I'm thrilled you saved the stuffed animal from your boys. Yes, one
day it'll all come back to them--the love that was in those special
stitches. They'll never forget.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Thanks for this story of childhood love and magic. I enjoyed it very much. (I have a stuffed bear that was my son's favorite bedtime companion and he sits under my Christmas tree each year.) I liked the way you transitioned through the stages of Tommy's life and, though the ending was expected and a long time coming, it was beautiful.

Oh, John, this is the best thing I think I've ever read from you. It's very moving, and so many of us parents will be able to relate to your story. My son and daughter both had stuffed bunnies - Bunny and Sister Bunny - which I still have in my possession. I hope to one day pass them on.

The dialogue tells the story, and I couldn't find a thing wrong with it. Great read.

Thank you, Pam! we are hoping to pass ours on too whenever they decide to have children, lol. We are still waiting! Oh well... I'm happy you enjoyed this enough to give it a SIX. It is much appreciated coming from you.

Our son and daughter have informed us that they "don't want to bring children into a world that's burning down." Makes me sad that we've come to this; sadly, I can't tell them that they're wrong:-(

Yes, it seems to be the consensus among our kids! And you are so right, sadly.

Oh, John!
What a beautifully rendered story!
Reminiscent of The Velveteen Rabbit and the Journey of Edward Tulane for this reader = two of my favorites, and now I have yours as well.
However, I had to smile about stitches being under Tommy's bed for so many years. Methinks his mother wasn't a very good housekeeper! :)
A treasured offering; that is for certain!

Thank you for sharing!

Haha! Diane, you bring up a good point. I guess we'll have to say she wasn't and leave it at that. Hahaha! That is a great observation, my friend. Loved it! Thank you so much for your kind words and SIX stars. I'm happy you enjoyed it.
