I admire your rhymes. I love rhyming poetry, but I am not really good at it. Congratulations on the All Time Best! Thank you so much for sharing your poem here, and best wishes to you.

I love poetry that rhymes much more than free verse, too. And this one was masterful, Jay. Lifting the spirit of others is a special gift and purpose. I'm glad you're doing that here.
Blessings,
Deb

Even though I write mostly free verse, I have to agree with you here. There is such a musical feel and flow to poems that rhyme. Your words bring forth good feelings and are almost like a song.

Hi Jay, I love the sonnet as well. I can safely say it's my favourite poem form. But as with everything in this life, things move on and new forms come along. Not a bad thing either. Ulla:)))

Jaybird 1 claims that metric, rhymed poetry generates a more potent emotional force than the more modern expressions in free verse continues an argument that really can't be settled. So, onto the merits of "Poetry with Body and Soul:" The author has been commended with a "Recognition" and an "All Time Best" on FS, where a piece's status is very much a product of promotion, and perhaps less a product of excellence. The essence of this poem is contained in statements about what rhyme accomplishes, and these statements rhyme in couplets and are metrically conforming. This is a poem of telling rather than one of inspiring; that doesn't mean it is an unworthy poem, but it probably does mean that it isn't a truly great poem.

We are on the same page with rhyme, Jay. It looks like your poem is in the form of a modified sonnet. I really like the couplet at the end. That puts the finishing touch on things.

This is a lovely poem harkening back to the poetry of earlier times when verse had form and shape like a spirit incarnate. I really enjoyed this and wish more poetic people wrote with such clarity.

I just loved this. It did lift me up and filled my spirit with light and love. It flows very well, just like music. You deserve your position in poetry.
