A haunting look at our 49th state. It's a beautiful country if you like cold. But it's so vast, a person could easily get lost, hence the terrible descriptions in the second and forth stanza.

Bill, this was so powerful and went from the scene to the people there wanting to escape. The beautiful terrain has conquered many, as it takes a strong person to survive. Marvelous writing!
Sending you my best today as always and six stars to bless,
Sal xo

Bill, This is a very well written poem you have penned about their Alaska. You used very good descriptive words, but very sad ones also. Beautiful imagery from the art work you chose. Did this really happen to your brother and sister? If so, I am so very sorry! Blessings, Teri

This is about the saddest poem I have ever read. How awful for your sister to have died alone from malnutrition because there were no services available in Alaska, known for its massive beauty, that is also unforgiving. And your brother too.

I have no idea how you survived such grief, Bill. But you sure did capture the horrid endless loneliness of a cold wilderness.

Thank you for sharing.

There seems to be a general thing going on with the more pristine parts of the world, particularly the colder parts which are being dragged doyen by the happenings in the more temperate regions, beautifully written Bit,,an excellent poem, skilfuly articulate with great rhyme, blessings Roy

Alaska has attracted because of the allure of finding gold. Even today people are attracted by the job opportunities. It may be a beautiful state, but as you mentioned, a lot of its promise goes unfulfilled. You might want to include a footnote explaining about the sister and brother. I don't think I'd like those long nights. I understand it causes some to drink excessively. judi

Hi Bill,
This flowing poem shows the beauty of Alaska and the horrors that we don't here about. It sounds like something that would happen to mountain climbers too.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Oh, Bill, I'm so sorry that you have such tragic memories of Alaska. For twenty years I often flew there and spent several days each time. It's beautiful and brought me so much joy.
Your poem is so utterly sad. I'm sorry. Ulla:)))

What a poignant poem, Bill. You did a great job contrasting their
Alaska with your Alaska. Each verse made that point of how its
beauty was/is gone for you as you remember the tragedies that
land dealt your family members.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Oh my goodness Bill, this is quite a shocking and truthful poem of how you feel about Alaska as your memories are vivid and raw, I am sorry to hear that there has been some tragedy when you look back at Alaska, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly. They both lived there for more than forty years. They ended up alone and vulnerable.
