All of us here on FanStory can probably relate to losing someone of importance in our life. At my age, 73, in particular. My grandparents were gone before I was born, and I have lost both of my parents. Of 13 children, I am the youngest, so I have seen all but two others pass on. Then there are the countless in-laws, cousins, aunts, and uncles and it just goes on. Death has no boundaries, no limitations.

Each experience seems to be worse than the last. Each one leaves a void so large one would think it could never be filled. But time is magical in its ability to smooth over the rough edges of life ... and death. It is that special moment though when something individual occurs that "...you know your love is gone for sure."

There is no escaping it. If it doesn't happen to you, you still must face the aftermath of losing your loved one. I thank God every evening for giving me one more day of this precious gift ... life.

You give us wonderful words of assurance, some small consolation in the treacherous journey of life or death.

Very nicely worded.

Hello Gary, thank you for your wonderful review and for sharing your thoughts and experiences which mean a lot to me. You are One of 13 children; may dad was One of 14. His youngest brother just died. I lost my dad many, many years ago when he was still a young man. Each day is a gift indeed. Right now, the people of Florida are thinking about that. Once again, thank you. I truly appreciate the time spent. Margaret ~ LateBloomer

I lost my husband last April so I can relate to your words. I like the verse about nature, squirrels, sparrows and a fox, it makes the reader feel good with its healing words. Excellent poem here.

Very sad and simultaneously very beautiful. Your image is excellent. I like the way you move from the realism and grief of loss to a positive acceptance with the help of memories and the dawn of a new day, and move to the beautiful final couplet, thankfulness to God for the gift of life and a new day. Well written.

A very thoughtful and endearing poem.

Sparkling in your poem:
-Word choice and imagery or comparisons that help to convey emotions and to address difficult themes and loss.
-Daylight rejuvenates and saves from overwhelming thoughts that circle the mind at night.

A very sensitive poem. Sorry for your loss.

I think this is very well written. Filled with imagery and emotion, and your iambic pentameter is spot on.

I haven't read a blank verse poem or sonnet in a long time, so this was a delight to come upon today.

Thank you for sharing this poem with us. Yes, a lost loved one is so hard. I guess the only helpful part is knowing you'll be reunited in heaven. I enjoyed reading this poem of hope.

My last six before the hurricane hits me. I read this yesterday and I just had to come back and give it to you. This is beautifully penned in blank verse poetry. I thought of the ones that I have lost :my mother, four brothers, and friends. My greatest loss has been my granddaughter, Esther Grace. Thankfully, she was followed by Sophia, my flesh and blood reminder of the goodness of God in this world.

Sending all my very best to you, and six stars to bless, dear Margaret.

This is very skillfully written blank verse. The descriptions are vivid and expressive, with smooth inclusion of personification; the message is soothing and moving. Yes, nature can help the lonely feel better about the day ahead.
