Good luck wishes regarding the contest, Heather. This was indeed rather catchy. I loved the picture such an innocent face. The short story was phenomenal. I actually did learn a lot about Winston Churchill before I read this. I had to study the UK when I was in grade eight, but it was so nice to have a reminder. Very well done, greatly enjoyed.

What a beauty, it sounds like Winston was a chip off the old block, a reproduction of the bulldog character that made Winston Churchill what he was, but even Winston felt the weight of responsibility during the blitz, but it was walking among the British people that buoyed him up during that dark time, beautifully written Heather, blessings Roy

So, with your author's notes the story makes sense, but it would never stand on its own. Is Blenheim the name of the estate? The town?

These limited -word stories are tricky.

Good luck with the contest.

Both the village and the state.
I understand what you say about the notes, but flash is tricky, you're right. Sometimes I love my stories and sometimes I hate them.
    Thanks for reading

Winston Churchill was a
phenomenal man. He was
multi-talented. I think I recall reading
President Lincoln's ghost
appeared to him in the
White House. My very best
wishes for the contest with
this gem. Blessings. ~

    Thanks so much for reading.
The Lincoln ghost story is super interesting. We'll probably never know if Winston was going through a manic/psychotic phase when this happened.

You are right - I never knew those things about Winston Churchill. I can relate to referring to depressive days as a "black dog." Now your story makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

To me it doesn't feel like a black dog, but like an anvil sitting on top of my chest.
I have just added a short WHO video about this black dog. I don't know why, but I'm having loads of problems with the advanced editor today.
