This was illuminating and informative and provided so many insights into what it was like for you. Thank you for doing such a good job making me more knowledgeable today.

Two little nits (usually, I would send these via private message, but since this is a blind contest entry, I have to do it this way. My apologies.)

1.) Stanza 8, line 3: Instead of "then when," it should be "than when";
2.) "Six months follow-up" should be either "Six month's follow-up" or "Six month follow-up."

Thank you for your service in the Peace Corps. I liked how you described the town, what you did, and your solution to save lives. Your poem maybe could have been more descriptive. And perhaps the comment about your wife could be dismissed. Thank you.
