I may have shed a tear or two when a relative died but never as much nor as hard as three weeks past when my dog, Buddy, went to wherever dog souls go. He was my pal fourteen years, and b holding him as he was administered the death serum was difficult but needed as he was in the throes of a violent seizure.

Author, your exceptional story of your exceptional dog is so touching. Whatever caused her to grab your arm that day, may have saved you somehow. My dog, Ruby barks wildly when I step near the gated edge of my upper patio fence to look at the rabbits below. I had "fall" from some heights before she was born, but she still senses that danger! Dogs are amazing.
I hope you've found love again with another dog. One dog does not replace another, they just add their unique color to. your lifelong tapestry of a life with animals.

What a beautiful story. I'm a sucker for animals anyway, but the simple truth of your story, told so calmly, really got to me. I don't cry often, so I salute you, and I thank you for sharing this and allowing us to feel a fraction of what you did and do.
