How tragic for both families. Jacque missed knowing her mother well and was raised on lies. It is wonderful that they were able to get together before Jacques' mother died. You did a great job. Shirley

Shirley, thank you for the six-star review!! It was certainly a sad story for Yvonne and her family, but Jacque did have a good life, it is hard for me to figure this one out. Thanks, Terry.

Terry, what a fascinating part of your family tree as it seems it has been shaken a few times in the past, my friend. This is, of course, very well written and an enjoyable read. Best, JohnC.

John, thank you very much, there are a few things in that tree, and there are two more stories about it to come! Terry.

Such a sad story. Family relationships destroyed - and partially resurrected. You wrote it well, and with emotion. It seems that Jacque was well cared for and loved, and had a successful life, but I can't imagine a more traumatic experience for any mother.

Great writing. Nothing is stranger than the truth, and you've presented this in a precise, engaging, organized fashion while keeping the emotional complexity in the forefront!

A mom having her child stolen is tragic.

Still, Jacque was well cared for and there was a reunion...

Grandma, it seems, was acting with good intent.

It's telling that Jacque shared: "In her mind, she saved me. Maybe she did. She devoted her life to me."

Point taken...today there would be Amber Alerts and Social Media outreach...

Back then I know of many families who blurred the genealogy with ease!

Captivating!

Karenina, Thank you for the six-star review!! I do think the grandmother may have saved Jacque. Certainly, from her prospective she did. Terry.

Yes...That Jacque said so, means to me she was well taken care of and felt safe...

I did not put all this in the story because I thought it might get convoluted, by her grandmother took all kinds of odd jobs during the travels, washing dishes, cleaning houses, anything to make a dollar, and continued to work until Jacque could take care of her.

Jacque's mother, my aunt was always I thought a good person, but she was married four times, so any home life might have difficult. Terry.

Wow. There are often many layers to every story ~ especially when digging into our own genealogical "secrets."

Terry,
This is life - rugged, ruthless, raw and real. Here is a tale of war, loneliness, love, destruction, abduction, survival and more. I wonder how many other families have lived through this sort of trauma, back then and even today. Yes, of course there's all the technology today but I suspect a lot of things remain "closed-lipped" under cover.
Jacque's dad is probably the saddest part of it all and Jacque, herself, the heroine. The best part is that you were able to do the research and leave this gift for future generations. Well done.

Such an engaging story with unique circumstances.
I always enjoy reading your stories because they are
so well written. I appreciate the presentation, for me,
short paragraphs make for a smooth read. Even though
I knew that technology was nonexistent at this time, I
couldn't help but feel some sadness from reading your notes.
As always, thanks for sharing.

What a terrible story, there are still these stories around today, I'm truly amazed that folk will twist the truth to fulfil all their desires, this is happening to a friend of ours at this very moment, believe me when I say there are many prayers going up for her, beautifully written Terry, it's tragic, well done, blessings Roy

Roy, thank you for the review, it is a sad story, but I did think it all ended well, but that did not make the middle part any easier. Terry.

Wow! What a twisted, complicated and sad family story. It's sad how the decisions of angry adults may alter the lives of children. This is a well-written and clearly told story. I liked how you went back and forth between your aunt's and first cousin' s recollections of events. Your retelling of the events in this manner was an effective way to get the perspective of both family members. Are you still in touch with your cousin Jacque?

Sandra, thank you for the review. I do swap emails with Jacque from time to time. She is a very nice lady. Maybe her grandmother did save her. Terry.

How can anyone abduct a child? Thank God for Amber Alerts! There are many mischievous people who will perhaps abduct a child, but when it comes to a grandmother, that is very sad.
