Ciao poet, you now have 6 votes.

I had a cat that had gone lost.

It was one of the 5 I brought back from Spain to Italy after my mamma passed away.

I kept all 5 in my second house ( which is attached to ours) for a month to get them used to being in a new place . They watched from the windows.

Then slowly I started to leave one by one out into our green patch for some leisure time.

Everything seemed going well until one day one of them most probably got scared ( the local baker s house is attached to our home and he makes lots of noise ) and jumped over our stone wall and exited the baker s property onto the cobble streets of our town.

I was so worried because being scared he most likely would just race off and once calmed down wouldn't know how to backtrack not knowing the area.

I was in total panic and started roaming our narrow street calling his name.

Two whole days past and nothing , I cried so much and I prayed to God to kept him safe.

On the third morning I continued my search and started to call when I caught sight of him in a narrow canal between two house just up the road from where we lived.

He ran to me and I picked him up . I was so relieved.

I know in my heart God watched over him.

That said I enjoyed your poem about angels and I have now learnt the meaning of the strips and the three colours on the American flag.

I knew the stars stood for the number of states ( wink)

I do believe in loving and being proud of one s country and even dying for the values it stands for.

That said,

Our country leaders have failed us , our PM acts like a dictator and has sold our country to the multinational companies, big pharma

It is selling our ports to China, our properties to America.

Our leaders betrayed us, they have no love for their country or its people.

but they are not the only leaders that have betrayed their country ( and the values it once stood for ) betrayed their people.

Afghanistan was a complete disaster and Biden is doing his best to make sure the war in Ukraine goes on for years.

Two weeks ago he signed a $40 BILLION aide package to Ukraine.

He should instead invest that money in America which is going through a huge economic and social crisis. Your country is deeply divided and is spiralling down.

Sorry for the long reply.

This is the way our children should learn of America, and what the red, white and blue stands for.

Several observations:

Para 1, 1st sentence (Eight year old) should be (Eight-year-old) Hyphen
Para 2, 6th sentence: Add space between (profusely,) and (and)
Para 3, 3rd sentence Add (of) between (Pledge) and (Allegiance)
Para 3, 5th sentence (to them) repeated twice. Should rewrite.
Para 3, 6th/7th sentence: Remove (She was that)
Para 8, 1st sentence: Add space between (white,) and (and)

Very patriotic tribute to your brothers and grandma. I salute them all.

It is pledge allegiance to the flag.

Oh, I always thought it was the "Pledge of Allegiance," but we would say it with the words; "I pledge allegiance to..." It was written by Francis Bellamy in 1892.

The "Pledge of Allegiance" to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

So, when it is referred to as a "thing" it should be "Pledge of Allegiance" and when we recite it, we should say "I pledge allegiance...":

The objective correlative of your work reminisces Mellsa's close affinity with her late brothers and late grandmother, whom she holds dear to heart as angels.

The work highlights how her close rapport with angels afforded her the benevolence of finding her pet dog, Duke and even herself with ease; it further brought to the fore the importance of the three constituent colours of the national flag to her and how she uses flowers reminiscent of these colours as token for honouring the dead at their graveside.

The work earns its texture through its effective use of anecdotes synonymous with nationalism and spiritualism.

Excellent work. Bravo.

Your love for your country comes through clear as a bell in this piece. I enjoyed the tale of finding Duke, although that's really just the introduction to a broader piece about the flag (which makes sense for the contest). I do think you change tense quite a lot but it didn't stop me enjoyed the read.
