This 5-7-5 suite is a fine tribute to the character and resilience of the rescued people and the efforts of those who volunteered to help them to safety -- in some cases, repeatedly -- during the recent series of floods in Australia. With your own family safe on high ground, I commend you both for helping so many others and for writing this tribute. Superb, and aptly illustrated.

Thank you Mike. I greatly value the six stars - very encouraging! I am writing a story about what the day involved, and a few of their experiences, to be posted soon.

You are most welcome, Wendy. You certainly do (and have done) a lot to help others. I was particularly impressed by this one. :)) -- Mike

What a disaster, Wendy. It is heartwarming to hear about the rescue efforts involved in the flooding, and, in particular, your involvement. Keep us posted.

Thanks so much. The SES do a wonderful job. My role is very minor. I appreciate your words and encouragement. Wendy

Everyone's spirits must be so beaten down, but true Aussie resilience and a caring presence will carry both the flooded and the helpers through this current disaster. Character is certainly revealed in tough times. People sometimes have more strength than they know... though it is better to not have to dig so deep so often.

You are right. Yet, most of them were relatively cheerful and accepting - getting used to it I think. Thanks so much for reviewing. Greatly appreciated.

I was watching the flood news on YV tonight... wondering if i'd catch a glimpse of you at the centre. There'll be centres in lots of places.
-
My granddaughter is with us today and she watched to see if I was on TV, but no, there were no TV cameras where I was. (Thankfully). And yes there are at least a dozen Evac Centres in and around Sydney.

Your well written poem shows your heart. It's a great work you are doing. I hope the sun comes out and stays for a while to give you all a break. It was a good idea to show two points of view.

A very nice documentary of what you people down under have been going through over the past year. It's amazing how some people can pick themselves up after disasters like that.

Thanks Paul. I appreciate your very kind words. The last three and a half years have been very difficult for so many communities, first catastrophic bushfires, then Covid, then four major floods within eighteen months, each breaking the previous new record.
But I still wouldn't live anywhere else.

Wendy, This is a very well written poem about spending your time at the evacuation center helping victims. That is so sad so many have to go through so much sadness and hurt. Bless you my friend for your great big heart of love and gold. love and blessings, Teri

Hi Wendy,
firstly, thank you for being one of those generous human beings who give of their time, energy, and heart to be of service to those in need in their time of need and such uncertainty.... and well, the numbness of disbelief that surrounds them.
Your suite of 5-7-5's hit its mark with me in a very personal way... I think it will hit anyone in OZ who have, or are going through this event once again. Just to see it happening again floats anxiety through the air.
There is a beautiful human touch to all of this conversation... because that's how I read it, I'm hearing the words that have been uttered on countless occasions from so many regions down our beautiful, yet scared Eastern Coast.
Just the thought of these brave and confused souls having to go through losing what little they had gained back is totally heartbreaking... my body and mind are tense with the thought of 'them'.
Beautifully conveyed... a real and personal write done with heart and perspective... I write this with tears in my eyes.
Stay safe Wendy!
With our thoughts we create...
the will of resilience.
Kind regards, James.

James, you understand their situation perfectly - because you have been through it, and see the results each time you go to Lismore. Yes, they are so brave. Some recognised us from the last disaster, so it was probably good for them to see a familiar face. Your words are so right - "just to see it happening again floats anxiety through the air". I hope that others will see that each one contributing a small act of kindness means so much to the victims.
Thank you so much for the six stars. That brigs me happiness. This was a quick write, but I wanted to share my initial reactions to these very resilient people, and pay a small tribute to their courage.

You pay a 'real' tribute within your willingness to apply Human kindness and physical help... so in turn I pay tribute to you... a beacon of assistance, and a hand of caring help.

"Character revealed. I stand amazed." That's a powerful set of phrases. It IS amazing that character shines through when people are so resilient and even grateful for help, yet again. I hope this is the last flood for awhile and I will pray for all affected. I hope you pin this poem up at the shelter because they may need to hear that you see their bravery:)
This is well-written in an interesting conversational style. The small phrases seem like snapshots of character and wonder!

Thank you Tina! I appreciate every word of your review. Yes, it is conversational, and in this format because these were my initial thoughts and reflections, scattered and short. You are spot on!

Your 5-7-5 suite is excellent--so descriptive of the plight of flood victims, some of whom must start over from scratch; and those willing to help. Disasters and need bring out the best in many people. Glad you're helping.

Rather than raising praise in what you write, for you been told that one hundred times, let me instead raise my voice in heavenly petitions to lessen the turmoil for your neighbors and friends.

Thank you Tom. I appreciate your prayers for them. Yes, I wrote it for that purpose, to show that they need our prayers, but also that they are good unselfish people, who don't complain, but just manage to carry on despite everything. Could I? Not sure ...
