I voted for this one, so I was pleased to see it was a winner and also that it was YOU who wrote it!
Your words are so full of aching pathos... the long, slow wait is a terrible fact in so many lonely lives.

Thank you so much for your lovely words. I'm glad you enjoyed it, if that is the right word. I think loneliness is much more prevalent than people realise, even families.
(I'm just back from a long day at the Evac Centre, and a difficult drive home. Such sad stories - many were people who had lost everything last time and their temporary accommodation is now flooded. This promises to be an even worse disaster.)

What an awful situation for so many. It just gets worse and worse. I send you 'stay strong' wishes for your work at the Evac Centre.

Overall presentation is stunning.
The message of your 2-4-6-8 was deeply meaningful, expressing the fate of many of us aging ones, as our grown children and grandchildren take off, each their separate way. Some, not all. Too much 'busyness' these days.

Yes, unfortunately you are right, and I know many don't mean to be neglectful, but they often don't realise how lonely and sad life can be, when others are just too busy. I appreciate your review, and your very understanding words.

Yes, I have a beautiful young granddaughter in a serious, loving relationship with a boyfriend, and I miss our one-on-one times together.

This 2-4-6-8 poem, The Long Slow Wait, has the right setup and reminds the readers that our elders need to know their lives are important and they are needed and loved.

Thank you Bill. Yes, they are often the forgotten ones, and life can be so lonely as they sit day after day, often too frail to go out. Thank you for understanding.

I think loneliness is a terrible side effect of aging for too many. This is why I hope, if I'm a sole survivor, I'll still have Fanstory or something similar to connect me to others, even if it's in a virtual sense. This is a very effective piece.

Hi there,

this is quite a sad piece - made all the more so for the absolute truth it tells.

Spot on with the syllable count in this deeply affecting poem.

best of luck with it

Thank you, and thanks for the good luck wishes. It is the sad and bitterly lonely last part of life for too many.

Unfortunately, I have no doubt that is sometimes the case, and your short poem makes the point with poignancy. Fortunately, there are also good professional carers and caring families to ease the burdens of old age.

Thank you, and yes you are right, if they can be accessed. Loneliness is a bitter end-of-life experience otherwise. I appreciate your thoughtful words.
