This is an excellent tyburn poem for the contest
with an unusual theme. I haven't seen gunsmoke for many years,
though I'm sure it's repeat on some network, somewhere.
Nice to see Festus in the picture too.
Well done.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so very much Robert, for such an awesome review. I had never heard of this kind of poem before but it was lots of fun. My husband laughs at me because I watch the show more than he even does, but I love old westerns and have no idea what modern day tv even looks like anymore.
Thanks for all your kind words as well my friend.

I'm actually old enough to remember the television show. This is a terrific entry into the Tyburn poetry contest - you seem to have met the requirements and it's a fun read. Good luck!

Thanks so much Pam. I appreciate your fun comments and review. I absolutely love when people can relate to a poem and this one was a fun one to try for the first time. My husband thinks it is so funny that I am such a gunsmoke fan, as I watch it more than he even does. I haven't a clue what now a days shows look like since I only watch the old stuff. Thanks again my friend.

I absolutely cannot write a lucid, meaningful tyburn. Yours is very good. You have captured the flavor of the Old West, this show in particular,
through the words of the unforgettable Festus!

Thanks so much Ulla! You are so sweet and I appreciate such a kind review and comments of this poem. It was lots of fun and lol, I haven't found anyone yet who hasn't at least heard of gunsmoke. Thanks again my friend!

I have to be honest; most poems in these demanding brief forms are unsatisfying to me. What's good about this poem is that is adheres to the mandated scheme, and that it plays with a lot of similar sounding words to emphasize its hero, Matt Dillon of 50's TV fame. Dillon was a character on "Gunsmoke," and this author chose the show's name for his poem's title. In every plot on "Gunsmoke," and most other westerns, the good guy hero captures or kills the bad guy/guys. So: this author captured the essence of the Western story in 26 syllables - pretty good.

Hi Frank, while trying a type of poem that I had never even heard of before, it was a bit of a challenge. However I like a good challenge. So I thought it might be nice to change up the same old themes with something different.
I wasn't sure at first if you liked it but then it appeared that you did and then said.., pretty good. Lol, wish there was a rating for that. Thanks my friend for reading and reviewing my poem.

I might look up some gunsmoke episodes if I can find them. That was James Arness, I think, who also played the original "Thing" in the great 1951? sci-fi flick.

Oh, what a great artwork you chose for your writing contest. I loved James Arnes and Festus, after the character, Chester left, was one of my favorite characters. I loved the poem and best wishes in the contest.

Thanks so much for sharing my Gunsmoke memory! I actually still watch it, even more than my husband. I enjoy the old westerns instead of today's tv.
It's fun going back to the good ole days. Thanks for the fun review and comments!

I'm not a poet, but I can tell this Tyburn entry in the contest is totally creative. I never would have thought of Gunsmoke, but you pulled it off excellently, telling a complete story. Best wishes in the contest.

Wow, I haven't heard about Gunsmoke in ages and it was before my time. Although I do know it was a popular show.
Great entry for the Tyburn poetry contest.
Good luck in the contest.

I suppose you are too young to remember Gunsmoke? But it was on before I was born, but was on for 20 years so eventually I watched it with my dad.
My husband thinks it's funny that I still watch the reruns. Thanks for your fun review Beth!
