This poem describes an attitude and mindset that is very difficult for some to achieve. Being close to and around nature and being able to resist interacting with it instead of allowing it to continue undisturbed, unmolested. That is a hard task for some to do.

I love the idea of a moral obligation to not disturb nature! Whether we have positions of high order or not it ought to be everybody's obligation to leave nature the way we found her!
I love the choice of rhymes and the theme is close to my heart. The picture chosen is serene and lovely to view.

the glist'ning glaciered pass,
stave off invaders, smother sounds
offensive, vile or crass.

Yes, it's so peaceful and uplifting to be in nature! My favorite stanza was:
"The straight-spined fir and burly spruce
are pleasant company,
their soothing calm and vigilance
so comforting to me."
I agree these trees give us the perfect company. As for the deer that always traipse through my yard, they are not so peace-invoking. Lol.

This poem and artwork show the calming effects of nature. I can see why white tail deer would want to stop at this lake for a drink. It would e a good spot to have a cabin within walking distance.

A beautiful poem was written about a beautiful painting. I think this is a good entry for the contest, good luck. I am very impressed with everything you saw in the painting and how you described them. I had no clue there are two types of trees. I am so pleased you enjoyed my poem, Carolyn. Most of Bierstadt?s paintings have peaceful settings. He painted both the Rockies and the Sierra Nevadas.

Thank you, Gypsy, so much for your high praise of my poem. Bierstadt painted many mountain lakes he saw them in the mid-1800s, including Lake Tahoe. Can you imagine what they must have like before people settled them?
