This is certainly a beautiful response to this contest prompt. It flows elegantly and melodically through all five verses and paints a scene of quiet serenity in nature. I know this will do well in the contest. I enjoyed it immensely.

I have been to many of these kind of places in my home state, Maine. As I get older, some of these places I will never see again in my mortal life. Very good job. You should do well in the contest.

Thank you, Paul. I have never been to Maine, but have seen several of the lakes?like this one?Bierstadt painted in the Sierra Nevadas.

I would like to know where this place is. It sounds like the perfect place to take a nap. Very descriptive; "jagged peaks that crowd blue sky." I can envision it now.

Nicely worded.

Hi, Gary. Many thanks for sharing my poem. I am not sure where this lake is, but think it is in the Sierra Nevadas. He did paint Lake Tahoe which he saw in the mid-19th century.

This poem, Restful Solitude, brings the readers into the serene fortress of nature with the mindset to respect what God has erected. Nice.

What a beautiful, descriptive poem. Indeed, nature is a healing balm. I like that the font is large and easy to read. The rhyme scheme stays consistent. If I had one suggestion it would be to change the gray colored font to the slate blue color of the mountains. Where is Bierstadt's Mt. Lake? It sounds German. Good luck in the contest,

Hi, Sandra. I am thrilled you like my poem so much and would do what you suggest about the font. But ADVANCED EDITOR only lets you use a black font. BASIC EDITOR lets you use all colors, but you can?t increase font size. Bierstadt traveled extensively in the American West during the mid-19th century. This lake is one of several he painted in the Sierra Nevadas.

Go to edit poem. and click on advanced editor. You will see a bar similar to the one on a word document. Go to the first capital A on that bar. There is a drop-down menu showing colors. Highlight the words you want to color. Click on the color you want. If you select other color option, you will see the entire spectrum of colors and may select the shade of color you want. Hope this helps.

You can also increase font size on advanced editor. It wouldn't be called advanced editor unless it offered things not in the basic editor format. LOL Thanks for the info about the painter.

I remember an easier way to increase the text size. Follow these basic steps: Go to edit post. Highlight the text and then press afterwards at the same time Ctrl and the + plus sign. To make text smaller highlight entire text and press at the same time Ctrl and the - minus sign.

This is a lovely poem that celebrates the beauty of nature and how it can calm the soul. I especially like these lines: "The straight-spined fir and burly spruce" and "Those jagged peaks that crowd blue sky," Good luck in the contest.

That painting certainly is restful on the eyes... I can see how well your beautifully descriptive words fit the scene. I too would like to 'settle by the shore
and let my fancies stray'.

Thank you so much, Lisa, for sharing and praising my poem. This lake Bierstadt painted is near where I grew up in the Sierra Nevadas of Northern California. Unfortunately, it does not look like that today because of all the settlement around it. Rod

Beautifully done! Your alternating 8/6/8/6 syllable count creates such a lilting step with which to stroll through Albert Bierstadt's rapturous rendering!

Nature -- always spiking the endorphins!

My spirit is lighter just reading this...

So, in the broadest sense, would this not be ekphrastic!?

    So fine!

love this short inspiring poem about the healing power of the special places in nature all around us. Mountains and lakes have a spiritual power if we can just see it.
