This is a very interesting essay. It is also a topic I too have read a lot about especially after my only child died. I am inclined to agree with some of the opinions you have made. This is a well-written essay. I appreciate the large font. The visual fits well. This was an enjoyable read.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I am inclined to use the larger, darker font so I can see it! I know I miss some really good stuff on Fanstory because it is just too much of a chore to see it.

I know -from my own life - that experiences with death do cause us to ponder the 'what's next'. I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child and my heart goes out to you in that awful experience.

Thanks for reading and commenting. ann

Hi Ann, it's an interesting theory you come up. We're born and we die just like any other living things from plants to animals. That is what I believe. Very straightforward really. Where we live on is in the memories of our descendants. I liked your well written essay of a topic much pondered on. Ulla:)))

Thanks so much for your review and for sharing your thoughts and beliefs with me. I love open and honest debate - indeed, I know an open mind is the only way to growth and learning. I wrote this a bit ago and just realized this morning that I had entered it into a contest coming up for vote shortly; so I decided to promote it a bit. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. ann

You have an interesting outlook on the afterlife and are not far from my own. I believe in God, but I also think he is a humble man and superiorly unassuming. So, I'm not sure about the Golden Gates and all the extravagance associated with what's beyond them. But, I do believe He has made a place for us. But, we will have to wait to know what it looks like. I loved this, AnnMuma. Best, JohnC.

Many have pondered the question of what if anything is beyond death's door. Theories of Heaven and Hell, reincarnation and the soul. No way to know is any of those are true. This is a nicely written commentary

Thanks for reading and commenting. I believe a person's belief, right or wrong, become real for them - at least in the short run. There will come a day when we know and we see through a glass clearly. Maybe more importantly is how we live this life. I wrote this some time ago, and this morning was reminded that I had entered it in a contest that will be up for a vote shortly. I hope you will drop by the booth. thanks again. ann

This is a very powerful piece and not dissimilar to what I believe. I like the way you wrote it and I like what you wrote. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend.

My belief is, the people who have had a bad time on Earth have a choice to either come back or join the rest as guardians of the living.

Ann,

You have ever so eloquently expressed my own basic beliefs on the subject, which I too have developed through studying, listening, questioning and experiencing. This is really the sum of it all: "I believe our souls yearn to return to the Creator and I know that return requires much spiritual growth." I wish I had ten stars.

Six stars from Sue is extra special to me! Thanks so much.

I also love knowing that our thoughts about our destinies share some common bases. It is important to me to share and to listen to other's opinions; there seems to always be an opportunity to learn something. Thanks again. I appreciate more than you know. ann

Hello Annmuma a good day to you. I hope this review finds you well. As a poet/writer it is always interesting to see the different takes on these contest/writing prompts. I think your take is definitely a good one. I really liked your viewpoint of this, you may be on to something. Good job and good luck in the contest.

We are instructed by this site to review based on the merit of the writing, and not on content. That's not easy to do sometimes, but the reason is an important one, so I try to obey.

Your piece is well-written and compelling IMO. Good luck in the contest.

An interesting subject and theory here Ann and I enjoyed your thought process and the conclusion you have come to, you probably would not want to know what I think, so I will keep my opinions to myself and wallow in your thoughts here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Typically, I love knowing what others think. I'm no judgmental in that way and like to think that only by listening, hearing and having an open mind can I grow in understanding. Thanks so much for reading and for commenting. ann

Very well written and well reasoned. This subject has taken up a lot of my mind throughout many experiences, too. I like the idea of a continuing soul, and there are things in life and about people that lend themselves to this conclusion. For instance, some children seem to be old souls and some old people, like me, are always looking for an adult to take over in a difficult situation. But, at this point, I am leaning toward viewing what happens when we die as just a natural thing. Matter is constant and cannot be destroyed; our bodies decompose and become part of the earth and the water and the air. What we call our souls are brain synapses and leave with our bodies, but we continue on for a while in those who remember us and love us. Anyway... this is meant to be a review, so the only suggestion I have to improve your piece is that opportunity is misspelled in the next to last paragraph. You have definitely earned 6 stars from me for your thoughtful and masterful writing, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of reading it!

Thanks so much for a very thoughtful review. I have heard your view stated many times and I believe it meshes well with my view. Certainly what you say is true. Matter is constant and cannot be destroyed; the final change in our bodies after our death are witnessed. I agree that brain synapses are a part of our physical existence and do cease at death, often seriously impaired well before death. I also believe our bodies and our brains are mere vessels used by our souls to gain knowledge and learn.

We will all know the truth some day and see through that glass clearly -- OR NOT, depending. I have heard it said, one does not die until their name is no longer spoken.

I've had some very direct experiences -- if you have time read my 'Last Goodbye or First Hello". It is 100% true and only one of the several experiences I've enjoyed. AND I'm not a nutcase. lol. I also know one must be open to such experiences to actually experience them And as you say, the mind is a powerful thing,

AND THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR THE 6 STARS. I am humbled by them and grateful for your kindness.

Very shortly, opportunity will no longer be misspelled. ann
